Confession: I have a friend who likes to text me at like 4am when heâs had nightmares or he canât sleep or he just needs a friend. He thinks Iâm always awake at 4am but really I go to bed around 12am and I change his text-tone to the loudest one I have just so it wakes me up when he needs me.

I think that since its been a year since I made this post its time for an update. In the past year Iâve watched this post grow and grow, people I work with have told me about it as âthis post I saw the other dayâ and they have no idea itâs my post. The person I wrote this about has even reblogged it. He is no longer texting me at 4am. Not because we no longer speak but because the nightmares have stopped. He and I both are in a much better place. Most often the only times heâs waking me up at 4am is when heâs pulling me closer to him while we sleep. Heâs more than a friend now and Iâm forever thankful to have him. Everyone messaged me saying he was lucky to have me but I think I was just as lucky to have him and I would do it all over.
The update just makes it even better â¤ď¸
Can we romanticize video games the way we do books?
Like you hear all these things about how you can curl up with a book on a rainy day and drink tea and smother yourself in blankets but anytime you hear things about video games itâs always about how youâre wasting your life away yelling into a headset as you play Call of Duty in a basement?
Imagine bundling yourself up on the couch, the sound of rain hitting the roof, and putting on Fable for a few hours. Or getting home after a long day of work. You make yourself a cup of cocoa, put on fuzzy pjs, and play Viva PiĂąata for hours not giving a second thought to the outside world. Semester just got out? Throw on some Fallout and just take a night to breathe and enjoy.
You arenât wasting your life away, youâre enjoying it. Games can be just as much an escape as books, except you get to be part of the story.

I was thrilled to pieces when I saw this scene. Disney could have written Gideon off like some bully character who never really amounted to anything, or got what was coming to him like a lot of those characters do in their movies. Gideon made something of himself. Heâs a pastry chef, something thatâs not traditionally a job for men in media. And as soon as Judy speaks to him, he immediately apologizes to her. He doesnât try to shrug it off as no big deal, or say that it was just boys being boys or whatever; he knows he hurt her, and he owns up to it. And Judy immediately forgives him.Â
Well done, Disney.Â
Also the language that he used is not something that he would have most likely grown up hearing/using. Describing his failings as self-doubt that manifested into âunchecked rage and aggressionâ sounds SO MUCH like therapy speak. So heâs either gotten counseling to help him with some of his problems, or sought out literature to help himself. A++ disney :)
