Mother’s day has always been difficult for Grace. Anything to do with mothers has been difficult since losing her. Having forgotten her when he woke up in space doesn’t make it any better. It only means he has to cycle through every terrible memory again.

Rocky stomps one of his limbs. “No. Rocky want to know about Grace parent.”
“Fine, fine. When you go back to Erid and they ask why you’re a Grace expert and not a human expert, don’t come crying to me. My parents were… Let’s see…” Grace frowns. His chest lights up with a strange warmth when he thinks of them, a gentle joy with dread creeping around the corners like a cozy Sunday night with the week looming ahead. He knows he loved them and that he was loved in return. Everything else, though, draws a blank. Grace’s shoulders slump. “I don’t remember. Sorry, Rocky.”

I still can't get over the scene of movie rocky eating in front of Grace 😭 It's the equivalent of meeting an alien and, assuming they will never encounter another of your species again, say "hey check this out we humans always do this in front of eachother to strengthen pack bonds" then proceeding to drop your draws and start playing in your ass.
I know if rocky could sweat he would be DRENCHED as they got closer to Erid, trying to come up with a polite way to tell Grace that he's been trolling him on Eridian culture this entire time
Like poor movie Grace would probably meet Adrian and immediately request getting to know them over dinner together (a standard human custom he assumed they shared cus of rocky) and Adrian being MORTIFIED. I love rocky he's such a little freak lmao

Ooh this just popped into my head and thought it might be a fun ask if you have a random moment to kill! What's a font/typography fact that you found recently that made you go "oh that's dope/cool how they did that/super pretty/wild history"? Just one of those little things you weren't aware of before but made you happy to learn, as general or esoterically niche as you want. I figure you've probably stumbled across some interesting things in your studies and my dragon hoard is collecting people's fun little tidbits from the things they study for fun!
Futura (1927) [Daylight Fonts · Fonts In Use · Identifont] is one of my favorites out of the well-established sans serifs, but one thing that annoys me about it is how C and c have vertical terminals, while G and e have angled terminals.
Besides being internally inconsistent, I find the vertical terminals ugly. (I dislike Antique Olive (1962) [Daylight Fonts · Fonts In Use · Identifont] for the same reason, but at least it uses its vertical terminals consistently.)
I recently learned the reason for this (from the book Paul Renner: The Art of Typography): Futura was designed first and foremost for writing German. In German the letter c only occurs before h and k, and in traditional German blackletter typography, ch and ck are obligatory, inseparable ligatures.
Futura doesn't have joined ch/ck ligatures, but ch and ck were still cast on a single piece of metal, with a smaller gap between the c and h/k than between other letters. The vertical terminal on the c was necessary to allow these letters to be placed so close together.
If Futura had been designed in a non-German-speaking country, the C would probably look different. Yet the German design was used and continues to be used all over the world (though usually with a normal-sized gap between the c and the h/k).
Arrest everyone involved.
Money saved: maybe a couple million dollars.

ok but legitimately i think the reason why kids aren’t taking internet safety seriously is because the people who are telling us not to put our personal information out seem so out of touch. no one acknowledges the possibility of meeting very real teenaged friends online, they always say that everyone you meet is a 40 year old white man in disguise. because they aren’t acknowledging things we know are true, it becomes a lot easier to dismiss the rest of what they’re saying as well. internet safety lessons absolutely must keep up with the times and acknowledge the internet’s capacity for good if you want kids to take to heart warnings about its capacity for bad.
Some actual safety tips for teenagers:
1. Have proof they're a teenager first. More than just a picture, have a video call with them.
2. If you want to meet up with them, have your parents or a trusted adult come with you. Even if they are a proven teenager, its still good to have supervision in case any issues happen.
3. If you are talking to an adult, and they start being sexual in any way, you run the fuck away. It doesn't matter if they're 40 or 20. An adult inherently has a power dynamic that teenagers do not. And its up to the adult to act responsible about it. There's exceptions of course, if you're 16 and dating an 18 year old, that's not a problem, we're not talking about that.
4. Being in a server with adults or ran by adults is not inherently bad. Talking to adults is not inherently a problem, and will likely happen in any number of Discord servers. It is only an issue when they are acting sexual and show predatory behavior.
5. Look out for grooming behavior. It can be difficult, because at first it seems like innocuous behavior, like complimenting or giving gifts. Especially if you feel lonely and have low self esteem. And groomers actively target people like that.
If they start trying to isolate you, talk sexual with you, state they depend on you for emotional needs, blame you for their own actions, try to be secretive about the relationship- Then you need to talk to people you trust, block the perpetrator, and call the police on them.
6. If this does happen to you, remember this: It is not your fault. Even if you didn't listen to a single thing listed here, it is not your fault. It is the fault of the adults who knew better, and didn't care. It's not your fault.
To my followers: if any of you guys are underaged, please be very VERY careful on here, and don’t fall for any of the tricks the groomer would use on you, just block them and report them.

I feel like the EWC has been put in charge of communicating with Grace specifically BECAUSE they mess up constantly. Getting their stupid messages is great enrichment for Grace, and going over what was wrong and how helps expand the linguistic database.
There's no way to truly understand a language or culture without making mistakes, and the EWC can be trusted to make all of them.
I think this is definitely a benefit lol....but no one planned it it was just a happy accident I assume!
I asked one of my (male) friends to stop using the phrase “man up” and he has been using “fortify” for the past two weeks instead and it’s just a little thing but honestly it makes a difference
and tbh it’s also pretty funny when I start to deflate in the library and he leans over and goes “FORTIFY”
Dude, fortify is bangin’. That makes things like you’re some kind of RPG character. Fortify is way better than “man up.”
