VI IS NOT IGNORANT TO THE LOOK IN HIS EYES! & really. . . he couldn't blame him. if the roles were reversed - would ekko do the same thing? vi doesn't want to feel the walls of defense rise up as they do, doesn't like that he can't help but feel the desire to excuse what he's doing. long ago things were so different. long ago he'd have the same look in his eye that he sees, a mirror image in his eyes of the disgust he couldn't rid himself of no matter the excuses he weaved.
ā it's not - ā not like that, he wants to say! šš©'šØ š£š¤š© ššššš©š”š® šš¤š¬ šš© šØššš¢šØ. he can't make himself say it though because it's disingenuous and it would tarnish something vi knows is little more than an intangible ideal. it's so fucking difficult though, especially with the way eyes bore into him. JUDGEMENT! & vi can't even blame him for it.
the world is at impasse, vi knows it. ekko certainly knows it too. no matter what the excuse. his throat feels tight, his nose wrinkles in self-distaste. ā you don't know what it was like, littl - ekko. ā
& what a pitiful excuse! vi can feel the way his jaw clenches in silent punctuation. vi can feel the way his whole body tenses. vi can feel the heavy shame in battle with his want to explain it all away. to make it acceptable in some way.
ā look, i don't have much choice do i? ā it's the denial of someone caught out on what they cannot make right. vi huffs in frustration. šš š š¤ šššš£'š© šš«šš£ ššš š©š¤ šØšš® š¢šŖšš šš© šš”š”! & that was the point, wasn't it? the point that he was sacrificing his own morals for. . . for something equally as intangible as the past was to him now. ā you said it yourself. powder is gone. . . i'm dealing with jinx now. ā
TOPSIDE WAS EVERYTHING HE EXPECTED IT TO BE! & that realization left a tight, uncomfortable knot in his gut. to imagine it in his youth had been one thing but to see the blatantly lavish and wholly unnecessary excess of the city. . . was another entirely. that long-lived frustration, the proof of all of their differences blaring bold & brightly. there was only so much vi could take in before he found himself wandering - as far from the center of the city as he could.
it is there, closer to the fissure than not, that he finds himself under the shade of a lone, gnarled tree. arms tuck beneath his skull & eyes remain closed as he rests upon the grass: the only solace in this disgustingly opulent city.
vi doesn't move from that spot upon the ground. for hours it feels like he laid there, his mind just as twisted into knots as his gut about this whole thing. none of it felt right. šš šš¤šŖš”šš£'š© šØššš š š©šš šššš”šš£š.
it's only when he feels as though he's being stared at does vi crack open an eye, head tilting on axis of his arm towards the direction he believes it comes from - & his mouth thins into a line of contemplation. ā . . . can i help you? ā

LIFE WAS NOT FAIR! the bitter & brutal fact vi had been forced to learn early on; the singular UNDERCITY truth that could not be ignored. he hates it more than anything - selfishly, especially when it impacts those he cares about. he cannot find it in himself to look at vander when his hand presses atop his head. it's mean, maybe, the stubbornness that consumes him like this to ignore.

if you want to spread terf ideology then do that elsewhere. very odd behavior happening. lesbians can go by he / him pronouns. lesbians can be transmasc. butch lesbians can be transmasc + use he / him pronouns. writing a character as non-cis doesnāt take away from other things that are still true about them.
also to add off this, it has been outwardly stated by those making the show that these characters are queer and that labels do not exist in the universe.
