As a lot of you know this year has been a difficult one. The breakdown of my marriage has been a particular lowlight of it. Over the years I’ve been heavily involved in bringing up my little sister in law and we’ve remained close following the marriage breakdown. She’s spent Christmas with me here and I opened one of my presents from her to find that journal inside.

How I didn’t just sit and sob when I opened it I don’t know but I suspect that the presence of my ex probably did me a favour there. The little ‘un had wrapped it so carefully and said she took ages to choose it for me. It’s such a kind, thoughtful and appropriate gift.

Soft as it sounds I’m grateful to have been in her life and to have tried to give her some stability and love when there was none to be had at home. Even though things are so different for us all now I know that the little girl who once toddled towards me all blonde curls and smiles is a young woman who has a gentle kindness in her heart. If anything I did helped that in any way then every moment of every year inbetween was worthwhile.

L - Not entirely dissimilar from where you live :) I think we’re rather lucky as snow is fairly infrequent and I can live with the rain and the cold. I do think the season of winter has shifted now though. I’m not sure it really starts until Christmas and seems to run until May when the sun comes back out!

O - Not in the sense of things like Big Brother, MiC and TOWIE etc. I watch shows like Masterchef which is real but not /that/ kind of real.

R - I’m not really a film person so I can honestly say that the only one I can recall having seen from this year is Deadpool. (I love Daniel Craig but I haven’t even seen Spectre yet :S) Deadpool was good though. Far gorier than anything I’d go and see usually as I’m a total wuss but it was funny, cleverly sarcastic and smashed the shit out of the fourth wall so very entertaining!

B - If we’re talking about real life then I actually speak. I’m much more sociable online behind the protection of a keyboard and power button than I am in real life. If I’m really comfortable then I’ll turn up to stuff, offer my actual opinions rather than just agreeing and maybe, just maybe, even let them hug me once in a while. (I have lots of huggy affectionate friends who know that just isn’t going to happen with me unless it’s a supermoon or England won a Test series away from home!)

G - Spaghetti Bolognaise every time. I love it. I make it from scratch with tons of garlic and basil in it and it’s lovely. Grated melty cheese on the top is also a highlight.

K - Now that’s a difficult one as I don’t tend to buy into that kinda stuff. What I can say is that I come from a very devout Roman Catholic background and tales of exorcisms and various other supernatural incidents that I was told as a child still haunt me today. One involved a two headed dog driving a car (and no, I’m not kidding) and another involved some sort of possession in a hotel room above a pub. Weird. Just weird.
