So maybe I'm slow. But I'm kind of realizing -- so a lot of criticism I read about Kamala Harris when she was running for president was that she had no plan, and every time she spoke it was word salad.
And obviously I thought those were insane criticisms from people who were ostensibly not going to vote for Harris, therefore in practicality supporting (even if not actually voting for) Trump. And how can anyone think that Trump during the campaign either 1) had a plan, or 2) spoke in any sort of intelligible way about anything substantive?
And now I'm realizing -- I don't want to be offensive, but I truly don't have another explanation -- those people really just lack intelligence. Like they think Trump just saying "I'm going to lower prices," or "I'm going to tariff everything and that will lower prices" is a plan. It didn't matter if it was lies or just impossible because that's not how economics works. They thought that was a good plan. And because they could understand the words, they thought that was intelligible, and ignored the other times Trump actually spoke not just word salad, but like sound salad because he doesn't always use real words.

Why do people like camping for camping's sake? I don't mean why do people drive really far away to a scenic place in nature as part of travel. And I don't mean camping in the backyard. I mean I know people who go to like a state park under an hour's drive away from where they live to camp overnight. Why? Like you still wake up early to get there to go hiking or whatever and have a campfire/bonfire in the evening, but still go home for a hot shower and flushing toilets and a comfortable bed instead of sleeping on the ground.
Today on AITA or whatever, I'm shocked at the number of people who think asking someone for a recommendation on what to do for dinner tonight thinks the question implies from the regular rotation that I cook. They think the OP is an AH for sending an instagram recipe. As a person who has experienced doing near 100% of cooking in a relationship, I have never thought that question implied from my regular rotation. Also, if I had the ingredients were were already planning on shopping, particularly if the recipe is "easy" or "fast" and doesn't have ingredients I hate, I would welcome the suggestion.
I'm reading this reddit post and pretty much everyone has the absolute wild (imo) take that hosts and planners of trips get the first choice of rooms and should never have the worst room. As someone who often plans, I absolutely disagree. The host should be gracious and make sure guests are comfortable. And as a planner, I am making sure I am comfortable no matter what I get, so I make sure to get enough space for everyone. If someone has to sleep on the couch or floor, it should be the person/people who made the decision that someone is sleeping on the couch or floor.
I haven't calculated or measured yet. But I feel like those mini sheet cakes from Trader Joe's that everyone refers to as "quarter sheet" cakes are actually eighth sheet cakes.
ETA:
I googled and a quarter sheet cake is 9x13, which is what I thought. (I guess it can also include the 8x12 size.) A trader joe's mini sheet cake is apparently 5x7-1/2 so slightly larger than an eighth. But still closer / more accurate to call it an eighth sheet than a quarter sheet, imo.

I feel like when people talk about politicians (especially women) and criticize them saying they're not going to vote for them because they can't articulate a cogent platform, what they're really saying is as a person they're not compelling enough for me to pay attention to. (And I feel like it's usually for misogynistic reasons.)
I just read a bunch of sources basically saying men manspread because it's more comfortable, and it takes active tension, discomfort, etc to bring their knees together. But women have wider hips, so their legs naturally go towards each other.
I call BS. I don't think any studies are really taking into account the heavy socialization of girls from toddlerhood to sit with their knees together. (Seriously, that messaging often starts before a girl turns 3 years old.)
I am a woman. And while I was somewhat socialized to keep my knees together, I did not wear a lot of skirts or dresses, and so my socialization was more casual (like mostly important for photos or more formal times, like fancy parties or interview). I can tell you, it takes an enormous amount of effort for me to keep my knees together for an extended period of time. And any time I briefly forget, my legs spread. And while I'm sitting at work all day with my legs under a desk, they are -- I would say wider than most men's natural stance. And the same is true for a number of women I see who are in a similar position (like less lady-like women who are in more casual positions).
I can't think of a single time walking or standing or sitting or anything where my knees would naturally trend towards each other instead of away. Even standing in parallel takes a fair bit of effort for me, and is less comfortable and less natural than my toes facing out slightly.
Today I was reading a reddit post asking what's disappearing that no one notices and the top response was patience.
This got me thinking, my whole life I've been a horribly impatient person, just incredibly impatient. But I guess because of certain life choices I've made, I haven't become more patient, but I haven't become less patient either. So on average my tolerance ranking has gone way, way up, even though I'm still the same impatient person I've always been for decades.
My posts here are more and more referencing Reddit posts, but never mind that.
I'm just now getting to a reddit post from a few days ago, a TIL post that most people stop listening to new music in their 30s. And there were some comments saying because life stresses catch up and they want familiarity, and other people saying it's because by that age they have a huge personal library of music (both are true). Some people said they haven't stopped discovering new music. And one intriguing question asking why people constantly consume new tv/movies, but not music (and a person answering that people often listen to the same music over and over, but seek out new tv/movies).
So I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
I pretty much agree with all the things people said before -- and one of the people who said they are older and still discover new music did touch on my point. When I was younger I didn't read a study (let alone conduct one) but did notice that older people listened to their older music and didn't really listen to new music. But when I was younger I didn't want to be one of those people, yet now I am. For the most part I do not listen to any new music or new artists.
(Note I will probably generalize, but I don't really mean to. I really only mean to talk about myself.)
One of the big reasons I don't listen to new music is because the way of discovering music has changed. When I was younger, radio was really prevalent in my life. Obviously radio still exists, but I don't listen to it anymore. My local radio stations are not to my taste, and I don't pay for satellite. Also I listen to Apple Music mostly now, and that has kind of spoiled me because it allows me an ad free existence so even listening to like streaming radio on Apple Music annoys me because it has ads.
Obviously Apple Music does occasionally push new music to me, in a couple of ways. However I don't really want to listen to it because if I do, even if I don't like it and mark it as such, I notice a change in my algorithm that I don't want.
Also I guess a lot of the time (not always) I want some kind of familiarity with the song that I used to get from hearing songs on the radio over and over in order for me to start connecting to it, that I don't get anymore. Like a lot of the time my new music introduction comes from like short form content where there's a new trend or something and everyone starts using the same part of the same song. And a lot of those times, I find those songs, or that part, to be extremely annoying and I don't want to listen to the rest of the song, or more of that artist.
However, new television and music, I both discover in the same way I always have (because I'm a fool and still watch cable). But also if I use streaming services, when I try new shows, maybe the algorithm is smarter, because if I start something and I decide I don't like it and stop watching it, it doesn't really affect my algorithm as much. Like the algorithm only takes into account shows I finish, probably. And then also, I guess the recommendations are generally better. And possibly, for streaming, they don't seem to put out that much original content, so it's easier to sort of figure it out, compared to the universe of music.
So it's winter Olympics time, and women's figure skating and all the commentators have generally been pretty great. But I hate the way all the American commentators pronounce Kaori. Like it throws me off so much, because I keep hearing them all say cowry like the animal/shell. And it doesn't sound Japanese at all, so I don't realize they're talking about the Japanese skater. Kaori has three syllables, and has a Japanese r, so like half r half d (very similar to a Spanish r), so even though I'm also American, it's so difficult for me to understand. Plus Kaori is so great, she deserves people to say her name better.

So this Columbia data breach thing -- I got the same letter as everyone else, and the internet says it's real, but I don't think it is, mostly because I don't know how Columbia would have my data. Like obviously they had the address I lived at when I was in high school, because that's where the letter was sent, but it's saying like my SSN and stuff? But not only am I very old (like gen x old), but I don't think I have any connection to Columbia. I'm talking like I'm pretty certain I've never even applied. (I've certainly never visited and never attended.)
I had a sudden thought/question: when did blue raspberry become a flavor? When I was little, it was all blue vanilla, and then suddenly it's all blue raspberry.
I'm watching another terrible Hallmark Christmas movie. This one is the worst ever, not so much because it's the most terrible movie in and of itself, it's halfway decent as far as Hallmark Christmas movies go. But it's so stressful. It's very much stressing me out, which is not the feeling I want to have watching a movie in the lead up to Christmas.
Literally the best thing about this movie is that a character actually pronounced the word "forte" (as in someone's strength of skill) correctly, rhyming with fort (like the place where military protects things or places) and not like forte (loud in music). And even then, it's been pronounced so much more often like loud in music over the past several decades that it's probably the more correct and accepted pronunciation today.
I just bought an "Irish" from Trader Joe's, and the packaging was in the style of Keough's so that's what I was expecting. I opened it and it's ridged, which I think Keough's does, but I've only ever had their normal, smooth/flat chips, so I was very surprised. They're not bad, but I didn't want ridges, so I'm disappointed and won't buy them again myself. (It does not say ridged or anything like that on the front of the package. I haven't read the back yet.)
ETA: I read the back, and it does say it's ridged in the middle of the paragraph long description that takes up over 1/4 of the back.

It's very frustrating when a restaurant only has like online ordering as their menu, but they only have that available when they're open. Like, I get that you're closed, but I still want to look at your menu to view it to see if I want to go in the future.
my biggest question about twitter now showing locations of profiles (and thus revealing that a lot of MAGA accounts are foreign) is why would Elon let that happen? Like I never thought he was intelligent, but is he?
