With a free period in her schedule, Genevieve finally had some time to read the books that she had for a while now. The reason why she couldn’t was because of the constant stacking of homework and projects that came her way in a daily basis. Now that its all done, she sat in the university’s cafe. As she was enjoying her book and coffee, she heard a creak of a chair in front of her. “Whatever it is that you want, I don’t have it.” She said, without lifting her head.

“It’s a perfect price, I cook for my house sisters for free, so,” she smirked, graciously accepting the bread as she went to work prepping the sandwiches. Hearing Milo’s comment about the twenty dollar grilled cheese made her pull a face, halting all of her motions for a minute. “Wait. A whole bill for cheese and bread? It had better been the finest of cheeses… Something aged, artisanal. From farm raised,  grass fed goats,” she laughed. “Served with some bacon on it, at least.”

Miles thought for a moment, taking everything she said in. He did smoke earlier that day however he wasn’t stoned. “I guess I don’t know what cooks look like?” He replied, sounding slightly apologetic for asking her. “Wait really because I will drive!” Miles said excitedly, not expecting the outcome and being happy he wouldn’t have to eat a boring grilled cheese for dinner.

I’m in, but keep your money. I’m just worried you might burn the place down.

Pity works for me! I get to keep my money and get a meal out of it. How generous of you to save everyone from having to rebuild this place.

“how the fuck do you burn a grilled cheese… twice? ten dollars? nah, that’s too cheap for services like mine. fifty, or no grilled cheese.”

Hey, I never claimed to know how to cook things outside of the microwave! To help my case, I did leave for the first one and came back to it. Too cheap? Please tell me you’re making the best grilled cheese ever and it comes with meat or else I may end up having to eat a burnt sandwich today.

“Sure, but keep your money.”

Wait, what? You don’t want money in exchange for help?

‘ if you say so. but why did you leave it the first time? it’s surprising it didn’t go off, really. anyways, i’ll show you with the first one and then we could do the second one together? i guess, you’ll get the hang of it then. does that sound right to you? ‘

I wanted to go watch a show on tv. I figured it would be okay if I came back every few minutes but nope. It didn’t work out that way. I guess I’m lucky that it didn’t and you showed up. That sounds do-able. So what’s first after all the cheese and bread being put together? Unless I even did that part wrong..?

“You’re either that desperate for a grilled cheese or really have no idea what they go for these days.”

“I think it would be accurate to say both of those are true. Can you just help me, please?”

‘ wait, are you telling me you can’t manage a grilled cheese? oh boy. i was already wondering where that smell was coming from, but now it does make sense. you know, if you stand by it and check if it’s ready it doesn’t get burned. but, aye, i’ll make you one. no payment required either. ‘

I promise I didn’t leave it the second time I tried to make it. I kept flipping it and checking the toasty part? But it never looked like it was ready until it was too late. Hey, at least I didn’t set the alarm off! Would you really? I need that right now and I’ll even watch what you do so I’ll hopefully learn. If I can manage it, I’ll make you one too if you want?

“ – Academic advisors are seriously the worst. I was on the phone with him for about two hours before we got anything settled. I’m just trying to get out of here and graduate but they can never fit you into the right classes. I’m already starting my fifth year, you would think they would consider me a priority !”

“I’ve given up on ever going to my academic advisors. Whenever I do, things just end up screwed up. I’m doing a lot better on my own. Except when I need them to take holds off of my account so I can register for classes. Then I pretend like they actually hold a decent amount of power on campus. You should know what you’re doing by now! If I were you I’d just check your degree checklist and follow that.”

I feel like it could still work, maybe if someone was nice enough to play along. But it’s kind of forcing it in late May. I say just go ahead and try to kiss them anyway? Who needs mistletoe? How many freshmen do you think would fall for that though? I feel like they would have to be gullible as hell.

“A tenner just to slap some butter and bread on a skillet? Deal,” Dominique agreed quickly. The school didn’t even pay her $10 an hour to sit at a desk, answer phone calls, and help people find their lost dorm keys at the help desk in the student union. The grilled cheese would take fives minutes at most. “Shoot, I might make myself one, too.”

“Is that not a good price for someone else’s labor because you’re a shitty cook?” He questioned, honestly not knowing how much someone would want to basically serve him food. “I think I paid twice that much if not more at this one restaurant in Florida for one.” Miles admitted pulling out slices of bread and placing them on the plates in front of them. “Go for it, have two if you want even. This loaf of bread is made for a family, not for one college student who also has a meal plan. It would end up moldy by the end of the week if I didn’t share it.”
