お盆休みの計画を立てられないまま、とりあえず映画でもみようと各館のスケジュールを確認していたのが8月13日。あのストップモーションアニメーション「JUNK WORLD」が公開されていたことに気づいた。前作から4年。果てしない作業が必要な作品だからもっと先かも知れないと思っていた。だから用心深くSNSで情報を拾っていたつもりが、すっかり見逃していたのだ。迂闊だった。しかもその映画館では14日が最終日。幸い休みの初日と重なっていたので、私はまだ見放されていなかったのだと何者かに感謝した。

エンドロールで、スタッフから声優まで監督がほぼひとりで担っていた前作の記憶がよみがえる。二作目は何てたくさんの人たちの名前が連なっていたことか！そして次回作が決まったと。このシリーズの三部作が近い将来、完成するのだ。私はただの客でしかないのに泣きそうになった。帰りにパンフレットも買った。すごい重量感(厚み)と充実した情報量にもかかわらず1,500円…胸が熱くなった。

後日、監督の「Ｘ」で現状を知る。心意気だけでは到底乗り越えられない、厳しい現実がそこには綴られていた。ただただ、無事に無理することなく仕事を続けてくださることを祈るだかりだ。そして、ひとりでも多くの人がこの作品を選んで、この独特な感覚を楽しめたらいいのになと切に願う。(K)
