Okay rant time I guess:
I recently read the Dutch translation of The King's Men by Nora Sakavic, and I hated it. I did not hate the story itself; I genuinely hated the translation.
It's been two years since I read this book for the first time in English. This is the first time I read it in Dutch. And before you say, "Oh, but it's been two years since you read it for the first time, how could you still remember it?", I am so deep in the AFTG fandom you don't want to know. I read probably all the major fics and most of the shorter ones (I hyper-fixated two years on this).
The minute I saw Danielle instead of Dan, I just knew that this translation would have mistakes. It made me doubt if I had just consumed too many fics and couldn't differentiate between fanon and canon. I was right; the original used Dan. They did the same thing with Abram. Sometimes they used Abram, and other times they used Abraham. I know that those are small details, but it really took me out of it.
On page 78, they made an even bigger mistake that really solidified my opinion of this translation. In the Dutch version on p. 78, they referred to Abram as his last name, which is not correct. In the original, it's clear that Abram is his middle name. It's the name his mother used for him because his first name was basically his father's name. But Abram was something between them and eventually between him and Andrew.
I don't know if I'm the only one who has this type of issue, please let me know if I'm exaggerating it.
