he’s happy. he’s with amy, how could he not be? that’s all that matters to him. they could be anywhere, absolute anywhere, and he’d be happy if amy was with him. and yet, he still finds himself yearning for the tardis. for travelling with amy and the doctor. 

     ‘ If I try a little less, I’m gonna be more alien, aren’t I? ’ He is sort of already at peak alien, but that’s neither here nor there. ‘ I dunno! I can’t win with you! I did not watch all nine series of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps five times to not be good at being a bloke! ’

     ‘ I’m being a normal bloke, Rory, I don’t know what else you want from me. I could not be more normal if I tried. ’ Maybe if he tried a little less? That might work?

     ‘ I suppose. It just feels - more. ’ John realises how foolish that sounds, and brings a hand up to cover his mouth with a sigh. It’s a well-practised gesture in another life. He just doesn’t know. Eventually, his hand drops and he rubs his chest, like he’s trying to check for another heartbeat. ‘ I must just be tired. That’s it. ’ He laughs, awkward. ‘ It’s all this homework I have to mark - lesson plans. Barely slept last night! Roll on the weekend, eh? ’
