If we don’t change our ways - people, companies, government -, this may be the most common type of fish found in the ocean in the next decades. A 2020 research conducted by the University of Exeter shows that 67% of sharks analyzed off the UK coast contained micro plastics in their digestive system. Sharks play a critical role in maintaining a balance to marine ecosystems, but many shark species are at risk due to overfishing. Oceanic shark populations have been shrinking at an alarming rate, dropping by 71% since 1970. Eliminating single-use plastic from our routines is one of the most straightforward steps we can take to improve the health of our oceans and our communities. The ocean is for fish, not plastic. The Plasticus Snackfishius is an invasive plastic fish species commonly found around picnic areas and BBQ pits.  Its reflective interior is a magnet for pelagic fish that mistake it for food. The smell and colors attract birds looking for an easy snack.  Because of its sturdy, lightweight material, it can travel great distances with the help of the wind, affecting areas way beyond its place of origin.  Please join us in fishing the Plasticus Snackusfishius out of our waters and beaches.
