Eurea blinked at the man, expecting a hug... Something from him. After all, she had been by his side and she was back there- just as they had promised... But something wasn't right now. She couldn't figure out what it was. Here he was, somehow, before her and he was shunning her. Giving her the cold shoulder like she was just some nobody. Not like they had fought the Meklords together... What happened to the man that had laughed with her, despite the future being so absolutely bleak?
Was she to believe this was the man that she had fallen in love with, despite struggling desperately on a battlefield? She still felt the same for him. She still felt a warmth rise in her chest when she held his hand... When she touched his hand, to hold it like she did with him so long ago... He flinched away from her, turning his back.
"Aporia..." She murmured, calling his name and reaching out to him. While he was larger than the man she loved... He was still that man, somewhere under all that armor and harshness.
"Wait... Don't leave me. After all we've been through... I finally came back and you-" He raised a hand, silencing her. Her eyes sparkled as he turned to face her. Perhaps he needed something to jolt his memory? Maybe things were coming to him now?
Eurea brought her arms around him and embraced him, burying herself in his warmth and looking up at him with a bright, happy smile painted on her rosy lips.
But her heart sank when he tilted his head to the side and there was no hint of realization in his eyes.
And she felt utterly broken when he finally spoke.
"Who are you....?"
He couldn't remember. It hurt to remember things now. He had made sure that his memories were wiped by Z-One. He had lost enough people. He had suffered enough and after killing himself for her once, he wasn't going to have it happen again... He owed Z-One for rebuilding him and he wasn't going to throw that chance away.
"I don't know what you are talking about..."
She knew what she was talking about... She had retained her memories... Z-One had patched them up, using the stories that Aporia used to tell him. The memories that Placido and Jose still carried... The first version of her- his first attempt at recreating her for his friend... It had ended in disaster and bloodshed, with Aporia killing himself to be with her after destroying her with his own two hands. This time, though... He didn’t remember her. He didn’t even seem to care about her and that hurt. It ripped her heart out and there wasn’t even any empathy from the other android. Not from Aporia, at least.... Z-One looked on sadly- being joined by Placido, who held some of the most powerful memories of Eurea and still felt something for her... But he didn’t act on it. He knew that he couldn’t act on feelings like that, It would only burden her, since he knew that he would die sooner or later... That he would outlive his usefulness and be discarded- like the trash he was. And he didn’t want to leave her, burdening her with his feelings and not even knowing if they were requited or not.
“You shouldn’t have made her. As happy as it made me... As it made him.... It will only end badly. You should destroy her so Aporia can get on with his life.... Give him his memories back and undo what you did.”
Placido turned his back on Z-One, leaving the “god” of Yliaster to watch Eurea from a distance, the girl abandoned by Aporia and on her knees, sobbing and calling out to the figure that was slowly growing smaller as he moved away from her.
Unfortunately he wasn’t listening to her as she called one last thing. The last thing she would ever speak, echoing her last words to him as a human.
“Aporia... please don’t leave my side... Please remember me, my love...”
