Hi!

A deputy essentially acts as a middleman between you and a seller/store in another country. When sellers don’t ship directly from Japan to other countries, you’ll need a deputy to communicate with and pay the seller. The seller then ships to the deputy who will usually store it for you, along with other purchases, until you’re ready to ship it home :) Generally you pay the deputy for the item, any commission they charge, bank fees, domestic shipping from the seller to them, and then shipping from them to you (So it can add up! It’s best to combine shipping if you’re looking for multiple things). 

The deputy I mainly use is FromJapan, as they’ve been awesome to work with :) Their FAQ is here:

There are also other good Japanese deputies such as Noppin, and Shopping Mall Japan. They do all vary in terms of fees though so it’s best to read their FAQs first to see which one best suits you.
