im having thoughts about this

look the main idea here is that they both can finally relax around each other. dirk relaxes enough to finally feel fine and like he's not ruining everything he touches. john finally relaxes enough to acknowledged the list of problems he's been ignoring since the game ended

he knows he can share that with dirk because they are basically two sides of the same coin, having the opposite points on the spectrum of the same problem. dirk would only be happy because yadayada dirkjohn analysis dirk as a prince of heart destroys personalities but john wasn't himself for so long that the only thing he can destroy is the mask he hides behind.
