i grew up in the south for 19 years and didn’t shave or wear a bra and never got told shit from anyone but my mother. stop acting like it’s a 100% chance you’ll be hate crimed for not adhering to beauty standards because that’s the opposite of what i’m saying. also nobody cares why you shave

This is a weird reply and weird hill to die on. it's not a 100% chance that you will get hate crimed but it literally does happen to people disproportionately trans people. Someone really close to me grew up in the south and almost died several times simply for their appearance. Another friend of mine moved down south and is terrified of presenting femme because people have been weird and violent toward him when he did dress femme. I get it you dont believe people should shave and thats nice and all and I don't believe people need to shave either but you can't sit here and tell me that not presenting your "socially assigned" gender doesn't have a consequence especially with how the united states is now. And you don't care but its my blog so I dont really care either???

So like. The whole point is that if everybody rejected this weird expectation for women to be hairless, we could together build a world where women having body hair is normal. Cis women who shave because they feel gross when they don’t are contributing to the exact problem you name. Less people would get assaulted for not conforming to their assigned sex if more people made it normal to not conform to the expectations around their assigned sex…

I’m transitioning on the job. I promise cis women can be brave about this without incurring much extra risk to their safety. Speaking from experience. Also thinking about my transfem POC partner who grew up in the south and pretty regularly goes back to visit. They get treated more like a lady in the south than they do up here in the north. Personal experience usually isn’t generalizable.

Be brave. Let your body hair grow a few days longer than you normally might. Go out without makeup one extra day a week. Go braless to a casual event. Free yourself. It helps others do the same.
