so i just finished So Not Worth It- I didn't even know people were expecting it to be terrible? I went in without any expectations- and the overall decision is that it's a pretty good show- including, but not limited to-
the fact that it has a diverse cast- first time I've seen ANY black person in a kdrama, much less TWO in main roles
the way one of these two men said "they can't tell us apart anyway"
how they also had a gay POC in the main lead in an interracial relationship
the fact that out of people in the international dorms- they made korean ethnicity people to have come from Australia and America respectively, and a black person to be a native korean (portrayed by a native black korean!)
the way they showed a mother who did not commit to one relationship- and yet it wasn't sneered upon or shamed
the international!! actors!! spoke!! korean!! and were brilliant actors!!
included a Swedish, Thai, Trinbagonian, and American character
showed a breakup that ended in cheating & a woman who dealt with it brilliantly
had arab representation that actively called out stereotyping
how it, even somewhat loosely, mentioned racism in the west, even if you have class privilege
talked about online harassment (which is such a big issue in korea?) in a somewhat comic way that addressed the issue without making light of it
the colours!! the shots!! the quality!! i enjoyed how the entire show looked honestly it was hella vibrant & pretty
were there things i didn't like? yes. the humour wasn't for my taste. i sometimes skipped some scenes because i got secondhand embarassment (crass humour- poop fart jokes aren't my thing and make me uncomfortable; even though they didn't go overboard on it). the laugh track was annoying.
and there were other things that bothered me, but i don't want to spoil the show for you. it's not the funniest show out there, but it's a good watch. it's an important watch for korea.
