better than the alternative
chapter 1 ------------------- summary: When, to her dismay, Caitlyn is assigned to be married, she runs away and meets her totally-not-girlfriend, Vi. tw: light swearing, mentions of arranged marriages. - also on my ao3 account! -
The day of Caitlyn's 15th birthday is supposed to be fun, right? And it is for the first few hours, until Cait's mother announces the news.
They're cutting the cake right now, the perfectly baked, vanilla frosted, chocolate cake is sitting on the fancy plating on the table. Caitlyn was sitting at the front, top, or whatever of the table, smiling as her mother handed her a slice of cake. Typically, her mother wouldn't like wasting her time on 'unhealthy foods', so Cait was determined to savor the dessert while she could. Forking bites of cake into her mouth, she hummed in pleasure at the flavor.
The tapping of a spoon on a champagne glass breaks her out of her thoughts as she looks up, where Cassandra is standing. The matriarch cleared her throat, gaining the attention of the party guests.
"Good evening, everyone," She started, a neutral smile on her face. "Tonight is a wonderful night for our young Caitlyn." Cassandra gestured to her daughter and the guests clapped politely before quieting down.
"Now, it has come time that my daughter is ready to be wed, to continue the Kiramman line," She smiled, and in turn, Caitlyn felt her heart drop. Her eyes widened, but she didn't speak up, instead keeping her mouth shut with an expression filled with dread. Ignorant to Caitlyn's obvious distress, Cassandra continued.
"We will be reviewing suitors in the morning, so please, if you are a house of influence in Piltover and have a child around Caitlyn's age, don't be afraid to ask." Her mother said with a polite smile, before reseating, taking a small portion of cake for herself as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.Ā
Caitlyn felt like she was underwater. The noise of the party muted, fading into the background as she poked at her food, vaguely aware of a few people offering their birthday congratulations. She made the efforts to respond with a 'Thank you' or an 'I appreciate it', before her thoughts inevitably sucked her back in again.Ā
She feels her mother tap her shoulder and she looks up, the piercing gray of Cassandra's eyes contrasting with her polite smile.Ā
"Caitlyn, dear. Party's over, go to bed. We have much to discuss in the morning." The Piltoven woman adjusted her collar before standing back up and addressing the party guests that were straggling behind. Caitlyn stood up without another word and padded softly away to her room.Ā
The lavishness of Caitlyn's bedroom was something completely unnecessary, but something she was infinitely used to at this point. The plush pillows, satin sheets, fairy lights she'd convinced her mother to buy her glowed a dim, baby blue in the darkness of her room. She unzipped the dress she had worn for her birthday, changing into her pajamas and carefully refolding her dress to wash later.Ā
She was getting married. What the fuck. She scoffed at her mother's imaginary response to her crude language, but at this moment we could care less. She kicked back the sheets and curled into the comforter, the plush feeling doing little to sate her nerves.Ā
What was she going to do? What š¤š°š¶šš„ she do? Her thoughts raced, the never stopping ticking of the clock driving her mad. Just more time passing. Less time to get out of this mess.Ā
She could leave.Ā
The thought hit her suddenly, though it was quickly pushed down. Her parents would send Enforcers banging on every door in Piltover if she left.Ā
Doesn't have to be Piltover you could go to.Ā
Her thoughts suggested again. She mentally hit herself for that. Not in Piltover, seriously? I suppose Zaun. Maybe one of those islands or something. She'd always wanted to travel.Ā
Fuck it. She ignored the mental scolding of her mother for her words and threw the covers off of herself. She threw on a pair of khaki pants and a navy-blue sweater, something inconspicuous, something that wouldn't draw attention.Ā
She sat on the bed, tying her boots before standing up. She grabbed her bag, thinking for a moment on what to bring. She eventually ended up packing enough changes of clothes to last her a week, they have to have laundromats in Zaun, right? She grabbed a pocketknife, for self-defense, not like she could bring her guns, and much as she wanted to.
After packing a few more essentials, she zipped the backpack up, slinging it over her shoulder. This was it. No going back now. She took a deep breath, making it to the balcony as Caitlyn started the slow descent of climbing, or rather, half climbing, half panicking, down into the Kiramman garden.Ā
āā¢Ā°ā¢āāāāāą®ą¹ā”ą¹ą®āāāāāā¢Ā°ā¢ā
Vi doesn't know which one to go with. She needs an answer, she needs to decide, but the watchful eyes of her siblings trained on her certainly isn't helping. Taking a deep breath, she made her move.Ā
+2
Vi hides a grin as she looks up at the face of Mylo, who's now spewing curses at her. She laughs; her lips upturned in a smile.Ā
"Told you you wouldn't win!" She gloated. Of course, winning at Uno wasn't necessarily a huge thing to brag about, the distraction of the nerves from her upcoming 15th birthday is welcomed with open arms.Ā
Vi stretched her arms over her head as Mylo begrudgingly picked up the playing cards, shuffling them back into the box. She heard the swing of the basement door, and she looked up, seeing Powder padding down the steps, tinkering with one of her gadgets. She walked over to Vi, sitting cross-legged next to her.
"Some of the customers kept saying there was a Piltie here, in the Lanes," Powder said with a shrug as Vi raised an eyebrow.Ā
"A Piltie? This far into the Lanes?" Vi reiterated, tilting her head down at her. Powder nodded, a small pout on her face.Ā
"Yeah... I hope they stay away," Powder mumbled, making her dislike for Piltover known, as if it was a secret. Vi hummed in thought before putting a smile on her face, ruffling Powder's hair, earning a playful punch to the arm from her as Vi chuckled.
"They will, probably get beat-up and scurry back to where they came from, don't worry, Pow," She assured as Powder returned the smile.
i might just go jump into a river because like you can see her shoulders just sag after the "you don't do much of anything now do you magpie? bird without a wing is just a funny looking rat" line.
because that is literally her biggest insecurity. she is nothing if not useful and competent. she was the muscle of zaun, Silco's brawn for his brains. if she saw others as disposable for the cause of Zaun's independence, she also saw herself as disposable too. she knows without her arm, her value has diminished, and her innate sense of self worth is interchangeable with her capability.
so until smeech has the nerve to touch her you can see the effect his words have on her. Sevika's worst fear is feeling useless, and when smeech offers her a new arm it makes it that much more meaningful in characterizing Sevika. it becomes not only a question of loyalty or ideology but her own moral conflicts. he's offering her a chance to feel capable again, at the cost of going against her own loyalty. she's never had the friendliest relationship with Jinx, she could have caved and turned Jinx in as just another collateral loss for the greater cause of Zaun. but instead in the next scene we just see her trying to fix her arm herself. because she doesn't see Jinx as disposable - she's the figurehead of the revolution.
she's uncompromising and stubborn and if she finds herself trapped between two options she will fight tooth and nail to make a third option for herself. she never does anything for her own gain and idk if that's really noble or really sad.
but anyway all of that is shown in the brief way her shoulders just drop
Fortiche?? Fortiche, i just want to talk.
crying right now
hear me out- mostly not in the freaky way uhhh-
she'd be really doting and caring gf, she'd be a little [a lot] overprotective of you, but the fics of her being rude or unnecessarily bitchy to her gf is like- she'd try so hard to make sure you're happy. def rough in bed though--
Every time someone writes her as a mean dom a lesbian angel loses their wings

you witness a lot of her episodes\breakdowns, though after figuring out that when your closer, you can help ground her, she always goes to you when she's even the tiniest bit sad
she paints your nails like hers :3
i feel like she'd be asexual \ biromantic
she makes you listen to her music 24\7. don't like it? too bad! get jinxed on repeat for the rest of your days.
she's loyal. and overprotective, she doesn't want to lose another person, so if she sees someone flirting with you, well, they won't be bothering you two anytime soon.
when she first opened up to you about her family, she'd expected you to leave her and be upset or look at her differently, so when you consoled her and held her as she cried, she was more open with you from that point on.
chronically online if they had phones. you will not get through a day without hearing some brainrotted term [ironically].

she makes kandi and gifts it to you.
she's not the most romantic, but she tries. (( sorry if this was short! but hoped ya liked it >:3 ))
"I'm here." -- [caitvi angst]

ššÆš°š¤š¬..Ā
ššÆš°š¤š¬...Ā
Vi's knocks to the wooden door that separated her from Caitlyn went ignored, the pink-haired girl tapping her foot anxiously.Ā
Ever since Cait's mother died, she'd been distant, cold, and it was starting to worry Vi more and more.Ā
She was about to knock on the door again before a small, almost barely there voice sounded from inside the room.Ā
"Come in," The blue-haired girl whispered, and Vi was quick to oblige. Pushing the door open without hesitation, Vi was faced with the sight of Caitlyn laying there on her bed, faint tear tracks spilling down her now pale cheeks, her blue eyes dull and almost lifeless. It was clear she hadn't been taking care of herself.Ā
Vi felt her heart shatter at the sight and she audibly exhaled, shutting the door with a soft š¤ššŖš¤š¬ behind her before walking over to the messy bed, sitting down on the edge as for a moment, the only sound filling the room was the springs creaking beneath her, accompanied by Caitlyn's labored breathing from holding back tears.Ā
"You're scaring me, y'know?" Vi's quiet, hesitant voice sounded. She didn't get a response from Caitlyn for a moment.
"Please don't worry about me, I'll...I'll be alright," Cait's voice replied, though her words sounded half-hearted, even to herself. Vi clenched her fists. šš°šµ šøš°š³š³šŗ? šš°šø š¤š°š¶šš„ š“š©š¦ š£š¤š© šøš°š³š³šŗ?Ā
"Don't bullshit me, cupcake," Vi muttered. "You...aren't okay." The Zaunite looked over, seeing more tears well silently in the full blue of Caitlyn's eyes as she responded in a trembling tone of voice.Ā
"I miss her, Violet..." The young Piltoven woman's voice sounded, no doubt talking about her mother. Vi's heart broke all over again and before thinking about it, she laid down next to Cait, pulling her into an embrace. Caitlyn's wrapped instinctively around Vi's torso, making sure their bodies were flush together as she buried her face on the crook of Vi's neck, taking shaky deep breaths.Ā
"I know, Cait, I know it hurts," Vi murmured, her hand carding through Caitlyn's cobalt blue hair. She could feel the taller girl's hands gripping the back of Vi's shirt tightly as she spoke.Ā
"She just left this- šØšŖš¢šÆšµ hole I have to just figure out how to fill without her, Violet, I- I can't do that," Caitlyn sobbed into the pale skin of Vi's neck. All Vi could do was whisper words of encouragement to the now crying girl in her arms.Ā
"I know, I know...Your mother was a wonderful woman, cupcake...It'll be okay," Vi assured quietly. After a moment of silence, Cait's voice was heard again.Ā
"Stay tonight?" She asked in a hushed tone. Vi nodded without hesitation.Ā
"Always, cupcake." She murmured in response, carding a hand through Cait's hair. She laid down next to the taller girl, a pitying expression on her face as she wrapped her arms around Caitlyn's waist, pulling her close as she pulled the blankets up, covering the two in a comfortable, plush feeling. Caitlyn cuddled close to Vi, burying her face in the girl's chest as she clung onto her with a shaky sigh. The blue-haired girl shut her eyes, and with Vi here, she could finally rest, maybe even without nightmares tonight. After a few moments, Caitlyn's breathing steadied out, falling asleep soon with the feeling of Vi next to her.
