Pixar films in recent years have taken on a more intimate and personal tone. We’ve watched a myriad of experiences unfold onscreen: the woes of a parent watching their child grow up; a child learning to fill the space left by a parent; a boy leaving his family and another finding one; a girl’s terrifying but hilarious journey into puberty. Director Pete Sohn drew on his own upbringing as a child of Korean immigrants in Elemental."

There’s also a character called Ooooo.

“Though it has Pixar’s signature outside-the-box worldbuilding and humor, Elemental has a grounded story at its core. It is one in a long line of Pixar films that sprouted from a director’s own story. The film is “a very personal project” for Sohn as it is directly inspired by his journey as well as the life and sacrifices of his parents.”

An quick rundown of Turning Red’s award season so far!

New Elemental poster and trailer! Elemental is Pixar’s next feature length film, directed by Peter Sohn (Partly Cloudy, The Good DInosaur, also the voice of Sox, Emile, Squishy). It’s set in a city where the four elements live together - water, earth, fire, and air. Ember and Wade are the protagonists.

If you’re on the fence about watching Lightyear now that it’s out on Disney+, then just do yourself a favour: let go of any expectations you have, watch it, and appreciate how fun and well-made it is. You’ll fall for the characters, the clever plot points, and all those subtle Toy Story references.

Elemental will take place in a world where the four elements (fire, water, air and land) live together. Protagonists Ember, ‘a fiery young woman’, and Wade, ‘a go-with-the-flow guy’, are an unlikely pair that discover they may have more in common than first thought.
