Almost 2 weeks ago, we were informed that the Joffrey Ballet 20/21 season would be cancelled due to CO-VID 19. Honestly, as much as I expected it as a possibility and completely understand why it’s necessary in this unprecedented time, it still made me numb realizing it was reality. Dancers careers are only so long, we only have so much time to continuously push our bodies to do what we love and have trained years for. I recently reached out to a couple of close friends in ballet companies around the US and discussed what more we can do. Among us, there was a mutual consensus that as artists, our job is to make others feel something besides numbness to escape the anxiety and doubts within the uncertain events that are currently happening. Even if the only option available at this time is virtual, our ultimate responsibility is to continue expressing ourselves through movement, keep creating new works to keep art thriving, and to continue pushing ourselves and improving so by the time we at @joffreyballet and artists everywhere are finally able to welcome you back to the theatre, we’ll be stronger and able to perform our very best for you all!
