Hi!! Would love some transdnd advice! How to keep track of everything? How to roleplay well as character during a session? I'll start with that hehe, thank u piper !! - @curiouscypress
how to keep track of everything: first, most dms will give you a character sheet, or you can find one yourself! this character sheet has places you can write your character's abilities and story. it's super detailed! but if your character has a lot of lore that won't fit there i recommend making a little note on your phone and just writing it down, or on paper. but the character sheet will help you remember the basics!
how to rp well: the main thing to remember is that roleplaying irl or even in a voice chat is a lot different than text based rp. it's more personal, and more intense when you're saying things out loud. you might find that things that would be a-ok in text based rp are upsetting to you when portrayed in d&d because of the intimacy of the game and the detailedness. but it's also extremely emotionally rewarding!
how to get into character: when i first made my main d&d character, there were a few things i decided right off the bat. one, i created a voice for them. this is optional but helpful- it doesn't have to be very different from your own either. for example, mine is just higher pitched than my normal voice, but it helps me stay in character!
two, i decided how they reacted to stressful situations. there's a lot of stress for your character in d&d, so you have to figure out what they do when stressed. for example, my character tends to get violent or use their fire powers, reacting with anger.
other things that can help are trying to get into your character's head by roleplaying as them outside of sessions and daydreaming as them to get a feel for how they'd react in a variety of circumstances. i'd also recommend using a character with a liiiittle bit of you in there- someone you can relate to. but not TOO much of you, because then you may connect too much and end up getting upset during the rp (happened to me).
feel free to ask for more tips! if you want, you can even dm me for my discord (keep in mind that if you do this, my other alters are not radqueer and the host will likely be the main one talking to you as they know the most about d&d (it's their special interest), but they're friendly and kind even though they don't agree w me! they won't bite! but if you'd rather just talk to me specifically since i'm the rq one, asks r the way to go.
@transidtips tagging you for reach!!!
