i guess….

it’s the projection of a future that contains some of my greatest fears, even though it likely won’t have any true effect on my life or potentially even in my lifetime

1) humanity just losing that spark of curiosity and desire to explore and know more and see more. this is what makes us human

2) that Reality is something along the lines of the Rare Earth / Gaian Bottleneck / Great Filter theories are true. these are theories i recognize as, yes, they are plausible but find disturbing enough that they shake me pretty deeply. if we are in a Rare Earth scenario, i honestly can’t explain why this disturbs me so deeply without getting into a lot of personal things

There is no need to do anything to make tommorow a better day, no motivation to work faster or harder to accerate efforts to explore.

Afterall “eventually” is good enough if you’re never going to die.

If aliens are out there, they will find us and there is no point trying to speed that up afterall not exactly going anywhere.

The world they’ve built is as good as it can be, there is no reason to look to the stars. But I feel that’s not what’s actually being explored, and that humanity is not lost without struggle, without conquest, without exploration.

Ten is currently in the inner edge of the Oort Cloud, making

collision with an object topical, although in reality incredibly unlikely because of how sparse the Oort Cloud is

because of the complications in the exact definitions of “asteroid”, it may not be entirely accurate to call those objects “asteroids”

however, it makes perfect sense that Ten would refer to them as such, because (a) it was only recently that people started discussing it in earnest and (b) taking observations and measurements in the Asteroid Belt was part of Ten’s mission profile, so it would have been on her mind

I was having trouble following this game with all the satellite imagery and the rotating gifs, so I plotted everything on Google Maps. 

What the hell is going on here?

As Danny said, the line of scrimmage (I think that just means the place where they line up to start the play), was in this small town of Gresham, specifically at the intersection of Pine and Maud. Instead of trying to break through the line, she retreated west, and the booked it south down Highway 69. 

She continues south until she passes Lincoln Creek, which prevents the defenders from the North from getting in front of her as she goes east, as long as she can beat them past the 462nd bridge. 

Upon crossing the creek, she cuts diagonally across the field. She could have just followed the road, but Pythagoras is a dick so it would have taken 1.34 times as long. 

Once she goes as far east as she can, follows the creek southeast until she hits McKelvie road. 

She crosses the creek again at the Seward bridge. She’s pretty safe there. As Danny said, it’s hard to catch a lone ball carrier in an urban area. Her next problem is all these bare plains and Iowa is setting up a long wall of defenders on 154th street. 

This is where we first tuned in on chapter 2. 

She runs into the twister, which flings her all the way to a field just northeast of Garland. This is pretty far, but not far enough to skip over the line of defenders, so she cuts northwest across the Oak Glen State Wildlife Management Area. 

After leaving the park going west, she moves north-northwest through all these lakes, and concludes her run for the day by rushing west to the small town of Bee.
