I put a lot of work into them and sometimes worry they might look a little to trendy or idol-ish, but I'm glad you like them :DD

A few months ago, while drawing the ninja in my style for the first time, I realised that Cole and Lloyd basically have the same hairstyle, they just swoop opposite ways. This naturally makes it hard to remember which one's hair moves what way and I'm always getting it confused. A couple days later I drew Kai with unstyled hair and I was like "wait this is the same as the other two" and then doodled a short comic about it, there's a little bit more to it but my back is killing me right now and it took me way too long to figure out how to make cool Kai fade into diet Kai T_T I saw there's some discourse going on about the ninja's hairpieces and it made me remember this thing. I'd write a whole paragraph about my choices when drawing this, but again, my back hurts a lot, like a lot (remember to straighten your back please) Thank you for reading! - a very tired Fox

Here's a bunch of drawings I made while figuring out what outfit I wanted for him... and a bunch more I did just for fun Kai's confidence comes from having been seen as lower all throughout his childhood. He's had enough of people judging him, so he just wears whatever. I know what he's wearing is not too crazy, but still, coming from a small village in the countryside, dressing like this is pretty crazy to him. He pierces his ears during the off time they get between season 2 and season 3, and around season 8 he just grows a mullet (my way of emulating the changes the looks from the movie made) Like I mentioned in a previous post, Kai's wardrobe is pretty trendy and varied... everything is still red and has flames all over it though. I imagine around the first few seasons he prefers to wear kimono and other traditional wear since it's what he's used to wearing, but he gradually starts wearing what others do. Once Skylor comes into the picture his style changes a little bit, but it's temporary since it's to impress her (he pretends he's super smooth but he's so horrendously down bad for her and also a little intimidated by her) The good thing about being horrible at drawing animals is that it's pretty easy to say "hey, look at that lion shaped blob, there's a better drawing next to it" and you'll be able to tell which one it is. I just wanted to mention that it was inspired by something else because I know it's super common to find fanart of the ninja wearing this type of thing. I ran out of space in my last post, but I wanted to say that english isn't my first language and I'm sorry for any mistakes/weird phrasing. Also the better drawn Kai in the middle are not my proper artstyle, just simple drawings I made to get the designs down. Thanks for reading! - Fox

Batch two of my ninjago designs! I forgot to mention the most important part about all of this, and that's that this isn't just a visual thing, it's like a whole rewrite of Ninjago up until the Oni Trilogy and then it's stuff I've come up with/ inspired by popular fan theories (dragons rising isn't a thing in my AU which is pretty rich coming from the girl with a Wyldfyre pfp) Now, let's talk about these goobers! Lloyd: I wanted to emphasise that he's not fully human, so his ears are pointed while the others' are rounded. His face does look very different from the rest of the ninja, but it doesn't translate well to this very simplified style. Lloyd never really got to figure out his style while he was growing up, so during his late teens he's just kinda.... generic. He often wears basic t-shirts and the same style of pants, not switching stuff up much. He's got gold accents as a reference to him once being the golden ninja. His ears are pierced. Kai and Jay were very dramatic about him getting his ears pierced and made him think it was going to be a horrible experience, but it really wasn't bad, he even went on to get his ears pierced again. For now his hair will be in this bob typa thing, but he does end up getting a more personalised hairstyle. Nya: Nya goes through a LOT of changes through the story. Without counting her ninja outfits she has about five different casual outfits and a bunch of different hairstyles as well. I thought this design would be the most representative of her personality. She's wearing her work jumpsuit, the sleeves tied around her waist and some sturdy workboots, that way she can just zip it up whenever and just get to work. She's also wearing a crop top with her animal insignia; in this AU this is meant to reflect her love of the beach and summer and actually shows a lot of character development she goes through later on. She also has a bracelet like Cole's and that's because at some point of the story (for reasons I won't say yet) Cole starts sharing his little bracelet ritual with her. Skylor: Skylor? She hasn't been on the show since Crystalised- SHE IS HERE BECAUSE I LOVE HER AND SHE DESERVES SO MUCH MORE. Anyway, working on Skylor hasn't been easy, there isn't much to work with to begin with, so I ended up having to make stuff up. For starters she's covered in tattoos and has piercings. This artstyle doesn't translate it very well, but she's got this skater girl vibe going on, mainly due to her being very good with the hoverboard thing she uses in the final episodes of TOE. I also gave her longer, straighter hair so she'd have a more unique hairstyle and kept the darker red colour she has on her first appearance instead of the brighter red it eventually becomes. Pixal: I've ditched the P.I.X.A.L spelling in an effort to humanise her more, which is also why she has a human disguise feature. There was once a time when Pix had an original hairstyle, but in came Tox and later on Nya and thus the ponytail gang was formed. I hate the ponytail gang. I changed her hairstyle to braids. It's still a ponytail, but her having textured hair makes her stand out from the rest. Being from a wealthy and prestigious background, Pixal wears semi-formal, more high end clothes. As much as I like the team as is, I felt making her girlier wouldn't harm anybody and would make the team more varied, so she typically wears skirts and dresses. I do have a version of her without her human look and I will upload it at some point. That's all! Writing this post has made me realise that the female characters have a lot of changes (gee I wonder why I felt the need to rewrite the female characters in a franchise originally aimed at young boys?) and I'll definitely have to explain how the story changes so that they (and the whole team really) will make more sense. I might make a post for each one of the ninjas so you can get to know my versions better and I am still working on the Harumi post, but that will take a while since I want it to be formatted a bit differently from these. I may or may not be very insecure about art I actually put effort into because the people on this site are incredibly talented so uh... here, have very simple versions of my designs for the core four ninja. I feel very passionate about my ninjago HCs, and the choices I made for these specific versions of them so why don't we go one by one and explain everything? Kai: This version of Kai grew up in poverty, so he didn't have many clothes to play around with in his early life, it is because of this reason that, in my head, he's the most fashionable of the group and takes a lot of pleasure in putting outfits together. He likes to keep up with trends but he's quite often the one setting them as he's shown to have a large enough social media presence to make the ninja get swarmed at the beginning of Skybound. He always makes sure to have some sort of item with flame pattern on it and it has become his staple, anything from neckties to socks, he has it all. You'd think that a man with so many clothes would have an equally large amount of earrings, but he only has two pairs: the basic black studs he's wearing and the same kind of black studs, but with gold accents when he's feeling bonita. Jay: Jay's the type of guy who only wears shorts, no, he's not the type to run hot, but he'll still only wear shorts. Jay's shown to be insecure about himself a few times in the earlier seasons and my version of him was a bit of a loner/loser before joining the team, so he doesn't really have a personal style, he just kinda goes with what the others *cough* Nya mostly *cough* think is cool or like. He only wears silver jewelry and "knows how to accessorise!" so he has a couple earring types he switches around and often wears simple chains on his neck. (also I did draw his freckles but the drawing's too tiny and you can't really see them very well) Cole: Cole once was a totally cool and awesome 2000s dude with a Justin Bieber haircut, but nowadays he  is 100% done with uncomfortable clothes and only owns comfortable sportswear. He doesn't really create outfits, he just kinda picks whatever he sees first and puts it on. This version of Cole is a lot sportier than the original, he still loves food and most importantly cake, but there's a bigger emphasis on his love of climbing and dirtbiking. He finds that both of these sports make him feel closer to his element and thus, his mother. You may have noticed that he has some weird thing on his wrist. That weird thing is my attempt at drawing a beaded bracelet. When out on missions, Cole likes to visit the local artisans and gets one bead per place for his bracelet, he does this because he likes to have tangible ways to remember the time he spent in those places. Zane: He's by far the character I struggled with the most. I wanted him to feel more regal and clearly older than the rest as a reference to him having been built during the serpentine wars... but idk his first design looked horrible and this new one is inspired by a quick pinterest search of "preppy guy outfits". He is definitely going to change the more I draw him and come up with more HCs for him, but for now he's just painfully basic. What I can comment on is his hair. I really tried to use a hairstyle based on the hairpieces his minifig has used in the past, but I genuinely couldn't get the hair to look normal, hence the new haircut. I think it still looks square-ish and gives him a very put together look... but he also kinda looks like a hipster and I'm not sure how to feel about it. He's by far the ninja I draw the least so this will be an uphill battle T_T Anyway! That's all. Tomorrow I'm probably gonna post Lloyd, Nya, Pixal and Skylor and later on Harumi and a completely new character I've created to fit a specific role (but that post is gonna be very ranty and likely very long) Also I swear if this stupid drawing is way too small I'm gonna SCREAM.
