#be more chill (specifically the book)#“the mc is so disgusting and misogynistic!” yeah that's the point #i wonder why the teenage male narrator in a book written/based in the early 2000s who has reductive views about women comes off as sexist..#and why is the character that's an allegory for societal pressure saying weird things and giving terrible advice? hmm...#the mc sucks. just flat out is a weird unlikeable person. that's the entire point. everyone in this book kinda sucks in some way.#the book is canonically the mc's unfiltered thoughts on paper. and they're not good. they're filled with biases and immaturity #bmc isn't super well done in its commentary on this imo but it's DEFINITELY not promoting/validating those views like some people think #i know many people's opinions on the book are extremely split and that's fine. it's a hard read for many reasons #but just because the book depicts misogyny doesn't mean it's promoting it or something. it's not #(i wish the women characters were more prominent/developed too because i like them a lot. but i understand narratively why they aren't)#idk if i worded this well. i have many things to say about this book. both good and bad.#sorry for all the tags i always feel bad reblogging with so much to say lol
