i have a random head canon that adrian loves avril lavigne like especially her old stuff and he kinda grew up listening to it. he definitely only listens to it when he’s alone though cause he gets slightly embarrassed.
you’re scrolling through his playlist one day in the car as he drives and suddenly you’re exclaiming, “wait you have complicated in here? you like avril lavigne?”
his ears start to burn and his cheeks get pink as he nervously starts to fumble his words, “avril who? i don’t even know— someone must’ve added that cause i— you know what, it’s probably a glitch! yea, a glitch! cause why would i have that song?” he scoffs.
you smile and raise your eyebrows at him, “it’s ok if you like the song, ade. i wasn’t making fun of you, i wanted to listen to it with you! i love that song!”
“you weren’t making fun of me?” he asked shyly, surprised.
“no? why would i?” you tilt your head towards him, “i just didn’t expect you to like avril,” you smile.
the song starts and you start singing along, trying to pass him an imaginary mic you’re holding in your hand.
emphasizing, “i like you the way you are, when we’re driving in your car.”
he fails to hold back a smile at that but he doesn’t sing along with you,
“WHYD YOU HAVE TO GO AND MAKE THINGS SO COMPLICATEDDDD I SEE THE WAY YOURE ACTING LIKE YOURE SOMEBODY ELSE GETS ME FRUSTRATED.”
your eyes go wide as adrian suddenly sings at the top of his lungs, drumming on the steering wheel as you giggle at him.
“LIFES LIKE THIS! YOU! YOU FALL AND YOU CRAWL AND YOU BREAK AND YOU TAKE WHAT YOU GET AND YOU TURN IT INTO, HONESTY YOU PROMISED ME IM NEVER GONNA FIND YOU FAKE ITTTTT NO, NO, NOOO.” you sing together, both of you slightly tone deaf but you don’t care at all.
you laugh and turn the music down, “thought you didn’t know this song?” you grin at him.
“ok maybe….its the best pop song ever written.”
you giggle again, “you’re cute,” you say reaching over to tussle his curls.
“you don’t think it’s embarrassing?” his ears going a bit red again.
“no! cause it is the best pop song ever written!”
the two of you continue to laugh and sing as avril plays in the background of your drive. complicated becoming you guys go to car karaoke song.
