So I’m rereading the Heroes of Olympus, obviously starting with The Lost Hero.

Why I don't like Piper Mclean (In defense of Drew and Jason)

Ok, let's start on the concept of Piper's character. An insecure girl who is Aphrodite's daughter. This could've been great if done correctly. We love you, Uncle Rick, but this ain't it 😭

From what I've read and seen of Piper's character, she's actually quite selfish and so annoying. Sometimes, I couldn't even get past her chapters, especially in MOA (I love moa, tho)

Don't even get me started on the fact she's a camp leader of the Aphrodite cabin. Imagine, you are Drew, your sister just died, about four months ago, and you saw her death in real time. Yes, Drew is rude, but we don't know much of her before Sliena's death. Then you got Piper, coming into camp, telling you your way of coping is bad, Piper wasn't even there to or knew of Sliena. And you're telling me, Drew, a war vet, lost her title to a girl who is barely trained in fighting. Plus, it was meant to be Drew with the seven, but because Piper took her place, we got no intell of Drew or any character development.

Piper gets teased/bullied by a few girls and expects us to feel bad, and Rick wrote Drew like that in a way to make Piper look better. (The way Piper spoke about Jason sounds like she owns him). However, for example, Percy, he is a kid who got bullied, he's been kicked out of schools, and he is objectively a better person than Piper. Even Jason was raised by Wolves, and he came out great.

Also, let's not forget that she's rich. Having rich characters doesn't mean they don't struggle. For example, Annabeth! If I remember, rich dad, but she ran away because of her stepmother. Piper complains about her life, like her dad has ALWAYS been there for her. Even when stressed, Piper has a private chef at home, and she's complaining? She claims to hate being Aphrodite's daughter but uses charmspeak to get whatever she wants. While a bunch of demigods don't even know when there next meal will be!

After she broke up with Jason, and after his death, she blamed Lester? In my humble opinion, Jason is a much more interesting character than Piper and stands by that.

Also, in terms of skill and power. She's the weakest demigod of the 7. She uses charmspeak to try and solve all her problems. That's how she took Drew's spot. Piper has little experience with combat. At least with Jason or Leo, they have physical abilities, Jason is a trained roman child soldier. He's killed monsters on his own.

There was no need for Piper to actually be in the story, so in my personal opinion, Piper should've died instead of Jason. At least Jason is interesting, and he's quite important to the cast (I love his bromance with Percy 😭🩷). He was Nico's support, Percy's support. Jason was the rock of the group.

Basically to everyone else the relationship between Chloé and Sabrina looks like the more toxic relationship it is in canon, but behind the scenes it's really different.

People would see Sabrina turning in homework for Chloé and think she's doing it for her, when it reality Chloé actually has poor eyesight and is too self-conscious, mixed in with the mother issues, to actually wear her glasses. So instead she says her answers out loud on her own and Sabrina just writes them down for her. In fact, If it's science and math. Chloé will actually tutor Sabrina since she has a knack for it. Sabrina returns the favor with literature.

Where people see Chloé trying to bribe Sabrina with expensive gifts, the truth is that Roger is actually really strict in what Sabrina is allowed to wear, but he has to begrudgingly accept it if Chloé just so happened to gift them to Sabrina since he both considers it rude to turn down gifts, and he sees it as Sabrina falling in line to higher ups. Chloé often goes for what Sabrina secretly likes which is wild colors and mix matched fashion. Chloé can't really understand the appeal herself but she supports Sabrina making her own choices.

When people see Chloé ordering Sabrina to get them some food or water, it's actually becuase Sabrina tends to hyper focus and forget about drinking and eating if she's not careful. So Chloé has to occasionally snap her out of it and spends snack times with her to make sure her friend is never actually dehydrated or hungry.

Where people see Chloé get in the face of anyone that gets too close to Sabrina, and think she's trying to isolate her, in reality Chloé is honestly just overprotective ever since some bullies tried to pick on Sabrina when they were little.

And basically more like that.

dont get me wrong, i like zoe. but thats it, i like her. i am not invested in her character and i doubt i WILL be invested in her character, especially if this plot of her having a dark past parallels chloe. because thats just rubbing more salt in the wound.

take her place in the group. take her old miraculous. TAKE HER WEIRD GAY SITUATIONSHIP WITH MARINETTE. and now she’s taking sabrina too! these two never actually interacted as far as i’m aware. i cannot get invested in their relationship.

imagine if you have a really toxic friendship with someone and you’re obsessed and dependent on them. one day you FINALLY stand up to that friend, with help. they fuck off out of your life. you never get proper closure about it. their SIBLING is suddenly everywhere and yeah fuck everything that just happened you’re in love with the sibling now!

like i’ll defend drew tanaka until the day i die but i would be absolutely terrified of her if we went to the same school
