[Text] I guess that means no more fun for me, huh? Haha, seriously though, congrats.

“Oh, don’t mention it. It’s my job to clean up after here, ya know!” Komari places her tea down so she can give him two thumbs up, proud of herself for getting praised by her boss. What he said about not being empty handed does make her curious, so she leans forward when he took out a box.

The mention of eating Chase’s share was something she was definitely game for– if not for her knowledge that he would definitely appreciate something like this. Traditional food that could broaden his knowledge… ah, that was definitely something he’d be interested in. “He’ll get all grumpy if he finds out we didn’t include him. I can take a few home to him. He lives in the same place as me.” She offers that much as she curiously figured out what to eat first. They all looked so yummy and pretty… 

Komari ends up picking one out randomly. After the first bite, she distinguishes the red bean flavor, and the same chewy texture for a familiar treat. “Mmm! They’re like mochi!” Komari exclaims, a cheerful expression on her face as she realizes this. “Back in Arcadia, my family had a tea shop and we made treats like these all the time! They’re great with hot tea.” And she just so happens to have served herself from earlier. Perfect! 

Komari tried the green tea flavored one this time and her expression stays delighted. “美味しい!  I like this one the best!” There was still the ginger one to taste, but so far, the green tea won her heart.

Kai couldn’t help it, his curiosity peaked when he heard the way Komari was talking about Chase. It seemed the two of them had been getting pretty close. Lucky guy! 

“I’m jealous! He’s lucky to have someone look out for him so much.” he replied, giving a little laugh at the thought. “It’s nice of you to look out for him, though. Tell him to let me know what he thinks, okay?”

That said, he was curious to hear her opinion as well and he watched her with obvious interest as she picked one up and started to chew it. He trusted Komari to tell him her honest opinion, it was one of the things he liked so much about both she and Chase. Neither was the type to try and spare his feelings - even if he might sometimes wish they did. 

“Right? I always thought mochi was similar myself.” he hadn’t realized that Komari’s family owned a shop, though. Not wonder she was so great at this job. “I didn’t realize your family was back on Arcadia. I’d like to try some of their mochi sometime. It’s been a long time since I last tried any authentic mochi.”

[♫] — As frivolous and in-genuine as the other man could seem at times, Max knew that deep down, Kai had a good heart. Great talent and an amazing work ethic as well, which had proven useful time and time again while he was still working under Max. Kai had a great passion for cooking and making others happy, which was something Max could respect. How could he not assist someone like that, and help them achieve their dreams?

Although he does wish Kai would be a little less… playful with him. He needn’t have other people getting the wrong idea about them.

He had been about to reject the Korean’s invitation when the mention of Elise’s involvement gives him pause, and he holds back what he had been about to say in favor of: “Elise? I didn’t realize you knew her.”

Kai certainly didn’t seem to be the type of person Elise would choose to spend her time with… perhaps this new and more open-minded Elise, maybe, but most definitely not the old one.

Kai had figured his name drop would get him some attention, and it seemed it worked. He couldn’t help but laugh, that playful smirk still on his face, although he was quick to make sure Max didn’t misunderstand. He didn’t want Elise to think he was spreading rumors about her - although she was a lot of fun to tease. 

“Elise and I go way back actually. We met in high school.” he said, wondering how much he should divulge. He wasn’t the type to kiss and tell most of the time, so he figured he would be at least somewhat vague. “We were both in band, although we play totally different instruments. Apart from that, we’re sort of opposites, but we get along because of our love of music.”

He shrugged a little bit before adding, “I didn’t expect her to come to my open mic night, admittedly, but it was nice to hear her play. You used to play as well, didn’t you?”

•｡ ☮ While the night was young and the stars twinkled in the night sky like the lights glimmered in the heart of the city, Rock was out on the town in search of an adventure. He would normally be partying at this hour, but much to his surprise, he hadn’t discovered one to attend or crash. Therefore, he resorted to prowling around the streets in hopes of finding something to entertain him, for sleep was out of the question – not yet, at least. However, as he turned around the corner, the sensation of his stomach rumbling stopped him in his path. He hummed delightfully towards the thought of a late night bite, so he scoured the street he had stumbled onto for a restaurant or, quite honestly, anywhere that offered something delicious and edible. Thankfully, the diner remained dimly lit within the interior; thus, he accepted the sign from the Harvest Goddess herself and walked inside with a stride in his step.

It was getting close to closing time anyway, and he normally hung around after hours to bang away on his drum set. Much better to practice here than at home, where he’d disturb the neighbours. Again. 

Hearing the bell chime from the front, the Korean actually jolted in surprise before he headed out to the front, a friendly smile crossing his face.

“Welcome!” he called out, leaning against the bar as he regarded the good looking blonde. Well well! Someone nice to look at! “Sure are. What can I get for you on this fine night?”

He asked, picking up a menu and presenting it to the handsome stranger.

[♫] — Max gives Kai a wary look, making sure to keep a proper level of distance between them in case he got any funny ideas. Though he had indulged and played along with the other man in the past, that was firmly an event of the past. During a time when Max wasn’t quite in control of his… well, self-control. No longer was he addicted to the sensual pleasures of every pretty face and alluring figure that crossed his path, now much more grounded and sobered from the wild days of his youth.

Kai, though… he hasn’t seemed to have changed much.

“Ah, yes, you do have a diner now, don’t you?” Max remarks nonchalantly, knowing full well that he had one but figuring he would play around with the other man in his own way, as a mild form of revenge. “I suppose I could visit, see what you’ve been up to since you left here.” 

The ‘loosen up’ comment earns Kai a scoff from the refined blonde, emerald eyes rolling. “Please… I’m plenty relaxed. I’m sure there’s nothing your open mic can do what a few glasses of champagne couldn’t.”

“As hard as it was to quit working for you, I did need to try and make it on my own eventually.” Kai replied with a sage nod of his head. He wasn’t the type to forget a huge kindness such as the one Max had shown him, even if he wasn’t the best at showing genuine appreciation. “It isn’t as nice as your place, sure, but it’s coming along. I feel like it’s starting to get more of my personal touch now at least.” 

Noticing the way Max’s eyes rolled skyward only caused the amused expression on the Korean’s face to grow with pleasure. “Really? Because all you seemed to do was work before I left. All work and no play, isn’t that how the saying goes? Elise came to my last one, so you know it wasn’t just a bunch of rowdies.”

◤ “Dude, hold on.” ◢

◤ There’s a small hum as Sebastian shifts, draping his arms around his pal and ignoring the smell of weed in the air as he gives one of the laziest hugs he’s ever tried to give. He would probably never do this normally, but, well, it does smell like weed in here. ◢

Then again, most people were pretty cool when he was baked. 

Nervetheless, he hugged him back, a lazy grin on his face.
