Hello there, anon! How to get into tf2, you say? HOO BOY, you’re in for a bumpy ride! And being confuzzled is perfectly normal, I have been in the fandom for 5 years now and I still am hella confused. 

First off, what exactly IS Team Fortress 2? 

It’s a team-based multiplayer FPS game made by Valve and is free to play on Steam! To be honest, to understand how the game works I recommend you to just download the actual game and play it yourself.

I’m going to be talking about the actual characters and the story here. *wink*

Ok, you know what? This is going to be a pretty long post so I’ll put the information under the cut! Keep readin if you’re still interested! 

There are 9 playable classes (characters) in the game: Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper and Spy. 

They all have different abilities and weapons and each has their own strengths and flaws.

MEET THE TEAM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l62OY19rZ7k) videos are mandatory to watch.

It tells you what kind of personality these mercenaries have! Here’s a video that has all of them -. Even if you don’t play TF2, it’s just fun to watch these! The characters are really enjoyable and the dialogues are hilarious.

Oh yeah, and if you’re wondering why sometimes the mercs are wearing different colored clothes, that’s because… well… to be honest, I don’t even know. It’s a team-based shooter game so of course the same class will exist in two teams in-game but I don’t know how this works in-universe, they could be clones or maybe they look the same but are actually different people,, ? You choose! 

ALRIGHT, if you have no idea what the hell is happening, then you REaLLy have to read the “Catch-Up Comic”! (http://www.teamfortress.com/catchup/). 

This sums up all the things that happened in the TF2 universe, explains who the other unplayable characters are and why the mercenaries are fighting in the first place! This comic helped me a lot when I first joined the fandom, haha.

So now at this point, you know who most characters are and the basic plot of Team Fortress 2, right? 

Now you’re prepared to read the TF2 comics and watch the official animations! 

EXPIRATION DATE (https://youtu.be/GLlLQ3LmZWU) is an update video/basically an episode for TF2. Unlike the other update animations, this one actually has a plot! This video is a masterpiece, I’m telling you! It has a bunch of funny bits and has mercs interacting with another! Even people who don’t even know what TF2 enjoyed it!

END OF THE LINE (https://youtu.be/6aLjwVVNq4s) is a community update video! The entire update was created by fans instead of the actual developers. This video has no dialogue but it’s still amazing!

NOW ON TO THE COMICS! 

You can read all the comics on the official website (http://www.teamfortress.com/comics.php). The TF comics is an on-going series with an actual plotline while the update comics are for the game updates.

The comics are so good you guys, PLEASE READ! It’s filled with hilarious dialogues and amazing art!!! 

Alright, that was all the official stuff. Now we get into fanworks and additional information!

The Saxxy Awards is an annual competition for films that’s hosted by video game developer, Valve. 

The competitors have to use a program called Source Flim Maker (SFM), a program that Valve created and used to make videos for Team Fortress 2. So most people make TF2 animations for this event! There are hundreds of fan-made TF2 animations made for this event and they’re all so AMAZING. Some of them are actually better than the official videos!
