i need the commentators on telemundo to stop talking about how fun it was in Madrid when Spain won in 2010 because i am distinctly not in Madrid right now and experiencing FOMO of a severity never before seen in humans 😭😭😭

for US applicants the most expensive parts of the visa itself are 1) the FBI background check, which includes the FBI processing fee, fingerprint fee, shipping costs (both times i’ve had my fingerprints rejected the first time and then you have to pay everything again), apostille (i’ve had to pay around $120 both times to get it expedited bc it took so long to get fingerprints approved), and sworn translation to spanish and 2) the actual visa processing fee (i paid over $300 the first time and $185 this time), plus there’s a bunch of other little things you have to pay for like a medical form signed by a doctor and passport photos
then there’s getting to the consulate bc this country is so massive and you have to go to the consulate that covers your permanent residence - a 13 hour drive round trip for me this time (around $100 in gas) and the first time i was temporarily living in california so i had to pay for flights to chicago 🫠
No, because why are visas so ridiculously expensive?? As someone from Germany who always took the EU for granted until I had to deal with visas, I'm really thankful that I can just move to Spain (or other countries within the EU) for a certain period of time without having to get any paperwork done. I'm not gonna pretend that I know a lot about these kinds of things, but I really don't get it. So many European countries are struggling with the lack of qualified personnel etc., why would you make it extra hard for people to get here? Anyway, I guess at least your money is well invested, haha. Hope it all works out for you <3
hahaha thank you, this is very sweet! the almost two years i’ve spent in spain so far have been the best two years of my life, so i’d say it’s been worth it :) now if i only had a european wife my life would be much easier, i’m not above a green card marriage 😌 (ministerio de migraciones, es broma 🥲)
but it’s also not lost on me the privilege of having a powerful passport in the first place - moving to spain was the first time i’d ever had to apply for a visa and i’ve been to 22 countries. the majority of the world has to put a lot more time and effort into applying for visas even for visiting countries with a lot higher likelihood they get denied

because i’m staying for a different reason than what i got my original visa for and it’s a visa type that you can’t change from within spain 🥲 which is very unfortunate because visas are expensive and a pain in the ass to apply for (one of these days i should add up how much i’ve spent on two visas from within the US and immigration paperwork in spain but it’s probably close to $1000 at this point🤠)

as someone who's done the opposite move from the midwestern US to Spain (currently actually in Chicago about to apply for a new visa to Spain😌) i feel very personally invested in this and i hope she loves it and has the best time (and survives the winter) 🥹
reverse culture shock goes crazyyyy but i have to say i love how friendly people in the US are and how much we smile at each other

Here's some stuff that made me smile lately:
-My exams finished, and I'm SO relieved it's over😭 Didn't go as well as I thought it would but I managed to be kind to myself about it, and I think that's worth celebrating 🥹
-We had a concert with my singing group and everyone did so good and was so supportive! We sang all together and individually, and you could feel the love and support we had for eachother❤️🥹
-A super cute app for sending messages to your friends through birds😁 It's called Roost, @pickledwoso recommended it to me and it's soooo adorable ❤️
-I painted with some watercolors and that was fun! I did a ladybug, some flowers, our dog, and a pigeon for Codie.
-Hasn't happened yet but I'm going on a weekend trip with Codie to a beach town! I'm so excited to have my first swim of the year 🥹☀️🌴
-I managed to learn how to take care of the plants in the house and they're finally not dying. I love my little plants 🌱 Codie got me a fern also as a congrats for my singing concert jijiji

i cannot even express how deeply obsessed i am with this app 😭 you can also match with random penpals so i’m sending birds back and forth not only with my friends but also with strangers in 7 different countries and it’s so coooool, look at my birdies go 🥹 (you can collect different birds and they go the speed of the real birds so sometimes they take a while to arrive)
