I'll be honest, ive been involved in fandom for well over a decade but it's probably obvious that i am very new to the f1 community (i have been keeping my eye on the sport for a long while, literally have not decided to fully immerse myself until yesterday when i finally decided to make this blog and actually attempt to find likeminded people, but this is also because i am quite scared of big fandoms like this nowadays) so the intricacies of how everything works and the dynamics in this fandom are still new to me, and i think i'm shocked over the amount of people who are interested in landoscar or lestappen who seem to not care for the sport itself? listen, i love yaoi, i truly do, but what drew me into f1 in the first place was the... motorsport of it all. how do you even like the yaoi if you aren't watching the races? what are you learning about these people from? it's not like they are characters from a tv show you can watch. i just don't understand the concept behind it if it isn't fetishization, and i do not use that word lightly.

perhaps this is stemming from heated rivalry, because i can tell you as a hockey fan, especially as a sharks fan, there is a general vibe among a loud minority of people who are basically getting into hockey as an extension of heated rivalry and not out of any genuine interest in the sport. obviously this is not everybody, and i think there is absolutely nothing wrong with discovering a love for something from a tv show you watched, but there are a lot of people who that's simply not the case for because they hardly even respect it. their love for shane and ilya bleeds into their interactions with hockey, so they see dynamics like willmack's and latch onto it without their brains even making the distinction between the fictional hollanov and the very real willmack, and therefore don't register that there is a difference in how these things need to be approached. these people don't actually care about the sharks, or about the legends that came before, or the area surrounding the team, or anything, they care about the fact that they made a real sport based on the tv show they like and it has cute young guys too.

and i think this has extended to f1, landoscar and lestappen and et cetera, and notably it also happened with haalingham during the world cup. this desire that was spun on by heated rivalry makes people want to see people in other sports kiss too, not just hockey. f1 is probably a natural target because of it already having a major history of rpf, which hockey also has, but it's not any less frustrating you know?
