The sorcerer felt the hair on his arms and neck begin to stand up. It was a feeling he was used to, the Sanctum held more spirits than a gin shop, and he lived a comfortably symbiotic life with them. Nevertheless, if this wasnāt his Sanctum, he might have some problems.
The worldās focus gave a sudden tilt-shift, and Stephen suddenly felt himself existing several feet outside of his own body, staring at his own face.
Not the face of his corporeal body, which had now slumped with surprising grace to the floor, but the face of his own astral projection. He opened his mouth, but the double cut him off before he could say a word. Thanos⦠Half the universeā¦Ā āThe Infinity Gauntlet?ā He asked. But that had been years agoā¦
He shook his head.Ā āNo, I havenāt seen anyone here. Zelma is my assistant, and Bats is my dog. Iām not sure who Christine is. Wong-ā¦ā He glanced down.Ā āIn my world, there was something similar a long time ago. Wong was caught in the Great Disappearance when it happened.ā
āChristine is the love of my life. Sheās the reason I do the things I doā or I should sayā sheās the person that I became a better person for butā I guess where you are from, sheās not part of our life.ā
The thought of her being gone bothered him but he hadnāt found her in the stone, she he was fairly confident that sheād just been busy helping others.Ā Ā āShe was our partner, the only surgeon I know that was as good as I am andā she was thereā took care of me after the accident.ā He paused for a minute, looking at the other manās hands.Ā āYou did have the accident right?Ā Three years ago?Ā The one that took away our hands?āĀ
He held his up so that the man could see the deep scars that were fresh on his fingers.Ā After the other glanced at them, he put his hands down and looked around.Ā His hands ran down his cloak as Levi seemed to be reaching out the man in front of him.
Ā āHow in the world did you get an assistant. Iām the Sorcerer Supreme and I donāt have one. Well unless you count Wong but lately heās been running both the London and Hong Kong Sanctum.Ā There just arenāt many of us left after Darmamu and his acolates. Thank God for the Eye and that I could use it the moment I put it on. Anywayā the Great Disappearanceā so you had the same thing happenā the Snapāā
Christine... The sorcerer wracked his brain, but still couldnāt place having known someone that significant with that name. For some reason his mind was suggesting a visual of some kind of amalgam between Clea and the Night Nurse, and he was glad to be jolted out of that train of thought by his double again.
Three years? What year was this? What decade? Nevertheless, with a swift motion, he tugged off one of his yellow gloves and held his hand out in front of the other doctor. It seemed only to be a fair reciprocation of the gesture. The marks seemed more faded, more irregular, but still a deeply-ingrained part of him. He stared intensely at the other, curious and calculating. More strange things... Other Sanctums...?
He let his hand drop, and began to tug the glove back on, still maintaining eye contact. āIt seems our universes may be very different, though they do still rhyme. To answer your-...ā He looked down at the Cloak of Levitation. There was no questioning what it was, though the stitching was more intricate than any iteration of it heād yet seen. It seemed drawn towards him like a magnet. Interesting... He cleared his throat, and continued.
āTo answer your questions, yes. I found sorcery after my own bad driving ended my career.ā There seemed to be an almost grim humor in his eyes. āIn the year 1963.ā He crossed his arms. He looked around the same age as his counterpart, a man in his early-mid 40s... āI got an assistant because my library needed help. She was one of my patients who was remarkably open to our world, and stayed of her own choice. As for the Great Disappearance-...ā He sighed. ā1991. The Titan Thanos assembled the Infinity Stones into a gauntlet. He killed half the life in the universe, and then went mad with his own power. I could only watch for most of the battle, but it nearly shattered reality itself. It was only barely won.ā

@wearenotthesameasyesterday has a confused visitor
Everything here was wrong⦠Heād checked, yet he wasnāt dreaming, not trapped in the toying glee of Nightmare. He was in the right year, not the past or the future, he was within the Sanctum Sanctorum, which was situated as it should be, at 177a on the corner of Bleecker Street. Everything was as it ought to have been, except for the fact that it wasnāt. Familiar things, objects, whole corridors, were moved or missing. The unfamiliar had taken its place, yet everything remained same enough to be unmistakable.
If someone had rebooted the universe again or been meddling with time travel, this was going to be a headacheā¦
āWong?ā Stephen called out, walking quickly through the building. āZelma? Bats? I need to talk to you!ā
Stephen had been walking in what seemed like a dream for days, or at least he believed it had been when he finally heard a familiar voice.Ā It wasnāt just that the voice was familiar to him, it was exactly the same as his own and he walked up to himself, the sorcerer knew that he wasnāt yet visible to him.Ā Looking down at the manās chest, it seemed that he must have been from another reality because he was still wearing the time stone.Ā His fingers instinctively reached down for the relic and all they found was his clothing.Ā Ā
Taking a deep breath, he reached out with both of his hands, shoving himself out of his body, bringing him into the astral plane so that they could speak.Ā Now standing in front of himself, he held up his yellow gloved hands, stopping himself from saying a word before he could explain anything.
āI know this must seem strange, but youāre now in my reality and in this world, Thanos has won and half of the living beings in the universe are now stuck in some sort ofā I donāt knowā some sort of limbo.Ā Myself included.Ā I thinkā or I believe that you were brought here to help figure out how to reverse all the damage that has been done.Ā āĀ
Looking over the other manās shoulder, he noticed the dust that had began to gather on the relics in the Sanctum and he could feel a deep loss around all of them.Ā He brought his attention back to the man.Ā Ā āDid you see Wong in thereā Christine, has she shown up?Ā Who were the other people you were looking for Zelma? Bats? I donāt believe I know either of those people.ā
The sorcerer felt the hair on his arms and neck begin to stand up. It was a feeling he was used to, the Sanctum held more spirits than a gin shop, and he lived a comfortably symbiotic life with them. Nevertheless, if this wasnāt his Sanctum, he might have some problems.

physicianpeculiar:
Usually Stephen was much more poised when greeting people. He was the Sorcerer Supreme within his own Sanctum Sanctorum, why shouldnāt he feel comfortably in control of the situation?
Usually, though, he wasnāt greeting the one person capable of making his brain stop working on sight.Ā
āClea!?ā He said, fighting to get his voice and look of surprise back under control. What was worse, (at least for his reaction) was that this wasnāt the cool, composed Clea he had last seen. This one was looking at him like sheād seen a ghost, and she needed his help, and from her voice, he could tell it wasnāt simply a matter of paperwork this time.
āOf course, ah⦠What is it I can do for you?ā He paused, then stepped back from the doorway.Ā āHere⦠Please, come in.ā He was still staring, though now with a little more ordinary curiosity. Sheād changed her look again, and seemed almost younger for it. He wondered whatād happened with her since heād last heard, in addition to what had brought her here.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā a little older and a bit more sophisticated in appearance⦠but still so similar it hurt. it took everything in her not to tear up then and there, but she had never liked cryingā especially in front of others. the fact that this stephenĀ seemed to know her ( or rather, this universeās version of her ) was a comfort in some ways. she wasnāt sure to the extent, but just the thought of there being another version of the two of them that had found each other was a nice thought.
as instructed, clea entered the sanctum, not answering his question just yet as she took in the interior of the building. again, she was struck with the feeling of the place being both familiar and foreign at the same time. but it, too, gave her comfort all the same. however, the building was not the only cause of her sudden silence⦠she was not sure how to proceed. every speech she had prepared during her journey had escaped her the moment this stephen had opened the door. truly, she felt silly for coming here and doing this⦠but she had gone too far to turn back now.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā tired from her travels, and emotionally drained, she could feel the toll of her situation begin to weigh heavy on her shoulders.Ā ā i⦠ā she struggled to get out, voice starting to shake.Ā ā i am NOT the cleaĀ you know, ā she exhaled, regaining a small bit of her composure.Ā ā i am from another timeā another universe, ā she locked eyes with him, the desperation clear in her gaze. ā s-something TERRIBLE has happened⦠ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā she momentarily paused, trying to find a place to start. ā āare you aware of a titan named THANOS? ā
She was looking at him with so much hurt he almost felt guilty, even nervous. Sheād seen something, or maybe heād done something, but for some reason he couldnāt quite get a read on her. Clea stood in the entrance hall as though she were a newcomer, though not quite so new as to be confused by the super-nature of the building. Time in the Dark Dimension didnāt behave quite the same as time on Earth, it must have been a much longer time for her than it had been for him.
āClea, whatās wrong?ā Asked Stephen, reaching out as though to rest a hand on her shoulder. And thatās when she began to explain.
He closed his fingers and let his arm slowly drop. Of course... Nevertheless, he hardly even blinked as she carried on, until she got to Thanos. The sorcerer bowed his head forwards slightly.Ā āUnfortunately.ā He replied.Ā āA madman in love with Mistress Death, at least, he is in this world. Iāve fought him before, and hoped I wouldnāt have to again.ā He looked up.Ā āHere, if youāve just traveled across universes, you must be exhausted.ā He began further into the house.Ā āCome on, I havenāt got a whole lot that will help,ā help that wasnāt self-destructive, anyway,Ā ābut I can try to find something, and you can sit down if you need.ā
((If thereās something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?
someone Strange in your neighborhood!))

Ā physicianpeculiar
It was some relief to him that sheād merely been reading broadly. He nodded as she explained. āYouāre right about having found an opposite. The Vishanti are patrons of white magic, so to speak, and much of my own power. Theseā¦ā Strange traced his fingers over the black book. āIāve fought the likes of more times than I care to know. Itās valuable, sometimes crucial, to understand, but dangerous to dabble in, as you can already tell.ā Heād done more than dabble, at several desperate points in his life, but didnāt care to think about that either.
He took a longer drink from his cup, and then tipped his head to match her eye level. āHave you found anything else interesting?ā
āI Find everything about you interesting,ā Verity said, a small, secretive smile on her face. āI canāt Find anything that isnāt necessary, and necessity is always intriguing. I believe there is always a purpose behind what I Find and there is probably a very good reason that you were left on my doorstep.ā
Tracing her fingertip over the exact line that his had followed on the black book, she said, āSomehow I will Find the balance between who I wish to be and who I need to be. But for now, you simply have to be satisfied with who I am. To accomplish that, Iāll do what Iām given to do and try to ask the right questionsā¦ā
Turning to look at him, she propped one elbow on the arm of the chair and placed her chin in her hand. She shifted so that her legs were curled to the side and the books fell from her lap into the chair beside her. Locking her green gaze to his, she said, āSo, Doctor Strange, with that in mind⦠I do have a question of vital importance: What would be your ideal first date?ā
Her phrasing was a bit cryptic, enigmatic, but Stephen nodded as she explained. He was something of an expert in cryptic and enigmatic, as well as tough problems, and the universe constantly trying to ask things of you.
But the asking right now wasnāt being done by the universe. The sorcerer raised an eyebrow at Verity.Ā āI donāt remember that spell in any of those books.ā He said. It... Was hard to tell whether or not he was kidding. But ah, I suppose it depends.ā Half the time, there was usually something very dangerous he had to deal with (he supposed those times counted as dates) and a certain amount of that time his companion would be the very thing he was fighting. Funny sort of world. The Bar With No Doors was always a favorite, though enough of the patrons knew his history that theyād be endlessly ribbing him if he took someone new there. Then there were standard things, dinner, cinema... A nighttime stroll through the weird and infinite dimensions.
āOn what sort of mood Iām in, or who Iād be going on a date with.ā
