Aron Wiesenfeld’s “Natural Selection” at Arcadia Contemporary.

Currently on view at Arcadia Contemporary in Pasadena, California is artist Aron Wiesenfeld’s magnificent solo exhibition, “Natural Selection.”

Aron’s paintings depict enigmatic figures traversing desolate environments.  Both the people and the places seem familiar, yet oddly out of place.  Wiesenfeld says of his work, “they are refugees, pilgrims and wanderers trying to get to the other side of a river that is forever out of reach.  I think they are answering a call that is not consciously understandable but resonates somewhere inside of them.  It draws them to a place that they forgot they knew about, something like a return to Eden.”

The exhibition will be on view until May 26th and should be sought out if in the area.

Travis Louie’s “Animals That I’ve Known” at Haven Gallery.

Currently on view at Haven Gallery in Northport, New York is artist Travis Louie’s fantastic solo exhibition, “Animals That I’ve Known.”

The Gallery explains, “From the scaly to the furry, each sitter is pictured in the finest attire and millinery styles of the Victorian era. Posed and executed in a soft application of medium, emulating tintypes or cabinet cards, each portrait is representative of that individual’s profession and ambition; attributes that define their individuality yet immerse them purposefully in a bustling society. Humor is laced with weighty undertones as Louie offers us notions of the other in curiously engaging poses and anthropomorphic depictions of unhuman species, both beckoning us to learn more while simultaneously finding familiarity and friendship. Inspiration for these visuals go beyond Victorian aesthetics and tap into Louie’s love of film noir, atomic age sci-fi stories and the quirks and particularities of people he has encountered throughout his life.”

The exhibition will be on view until June 16th, 2019 and should definitely be sought out if in the area.

Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins’ “Let the Outside In” at KP Projects.

Opening Saturday, May 18th at KP Projects in Los Angeles, California is artist Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins exceptional solo exhibition, “Let the Outside In.”

From the Gallery: “Today, we live in a world of dizzying speed, exponential complexity, and ruthless competition. As adults, our imagination is intact, but boundaries prevent us from going beyond our rational minds. We set parameters, which if stepped over, would let us recapture the freedom and wonder of childhood creativity.  In Craola’s newest exhibition, the artist invites ‘The Outside’ world into the inner world of his imagination, where every character represents a new possibility, and every adventure inspires a rediscovery of innocence and possibility.”
