A solemn instrumental opening… and then WOAH!  This is the one who has been getting a lot of sort of sarcastic coverage for his look… and he actually has an amazing/dramatic voice.  And the sort of song (along with its message) is one that often does well at Eurovision.  Here’s hoping that some of the more conservative countries don’t feel that they’re being teasingly bated with this entry. 

And I feel like this guy is gonna create some amazing GIFs in the coming months.

Maria’s got good style and a great hook that could make this song infectious ear candy for the final round.  She’s definitely better than the Tolmachevy Sisters (sorry Russia!), I’m glad Ukraine is bringing it.  The song could’ve done with less explicit similes (“my heart is like a clock”, “steady like a rock”), but what can you do?  It’s #Eurovision.

I do love the strong strings of this song, but telling a “little bird” she’s not alone and shouldn’t cry might not play the best in Denmark, n’est-ce pas?  And, then, of course, we get our EDM beat drop right at 2 minutes.  So dependable, Armenia!  Hop on those trends from Baku, that’ll work out.  Otherwise a fair song, that’s probably suffering from my frustration at seeing this as the first song to review.
