I don't like people who actually "baby talk" to human babies. That's a person who's supposed to learn how to speak properly one day, and you're not helping by being nonsensical. These same people find it funny when you talk to a baby like you'd talk to any other person, and some of them get insulted when you baby talk to animals. I'm not the one talking to a dog like it's a baby, you're the one talking to a baby like it's a dog.
Wild animals, however, need to be addressed formally, like a person that you don't know. Because that's what they are, and you're not supposed to be familiar with them. And if one is familiar with you, that's the way you respond. Like sir. Sir what are you doing. There's nothing in my pockets for you. This is my yard and you are trespassing. Please leave.
Hello you are linguistically WRONG on this one sorry. Baby talk for one is much more effective at holding an infant's attention which is step one if they're supposed to be picking things up. On top of that overarticulating vowels helps with their speech perception, reduplication, diminuatives and a preference for shorter words help vocabulary acquisition, speaking for them helps conversational awareness etc. Baby talk (or IDS if you're being fancy about it) is actually fine-tuned to support babies' language acquisition and forgoing it entirely will only hurt the child in the long run.
When people do baby talk to elderly folk though? That's a different more evil thing.
OCTOLING KENDRICK: Splat a salmon just to pay the bills just to get some thrills evolve past a need for gills my war crimes against these fish reminds me of home spent so many years underneath an electric dome the octarian zone (squid sisters start singing in the background) my octoling sisters send em right into blenders
INKLING DRAKE: U used 2 call me on my shell phone
Apparently Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead really HATED fruit-based spreads Yeah He wanted jam banned
Random streamer clip your friend sends you simulator
Wayneradiotv: [people screaming in the background, a gmod ufo passes by, Wayne is sitting on the floor on greenscreen laughing his ass off, there's an explosion]
Jerma985: [obviously clipped mid-sentence] think there's nothing wrong with killing people if you're hiding the evidence well. That's crazy, I don't believe that--I don't think this type of person exists. That should not be happening, ever. [His character gets ran over by a car in the game he's playing. He breaks down in hysterics.]
NorthernLion: So when you think about the grand scheme of things it doesn't take much to realize that your life can be comfortable just the way it is. You don't need a fancy car, you don't need a-- well maybe you do need a fancy house but only as it brings you good--good tidings. "You hate people who work hard"? Buddy, no disrespect, but I don't think your CV fills out a full page, you're the weakest link. [Gets a cool item on the roguelike pick-three] THE ULTIMATE DESTRUCTORRRRR

Always makes me kind of sad that people put down visual novels so much. Like can we really not just take a moment and acknowledge the unique qualities it has as a medium?
There's visual and audio elements that can help add atmosphere and interest to a piece of writing. A lot of people with adhd have told me that these things help them engage with a story a lot more, and as an illustrator, that visual component is really useful in terms of telling a story.
Graphic novels also use visuals to help tell stories, but to me, they're more weighted towards telling stories which are lighter on text. With visual novels there's a heavier emphasis on text. It's usually expected that you'll hold on a single image while possibly going through pages of text. This might sound like a bad thing, but it frees up the author to write more in depth dialogues between characters. I think this is much better for intimate story telling.
This isn't even getting into dialogue trees and other branching paths, which are the main boon for the medium. I think that it's great that people have the opportunity to tell stories with branching paths without having to include gameplay segments.
I'm really just rambling but the point is that I don't think we should put a medium down in the way that people put visual novels down. It's really a hybrid of games, literature, and illustration and it allows for a lot of story telling opportunities while being relatively inexpensive to produce. I think a medium that's as versatile and accessible as the visual novel should be more appreciated than it is.
I'm always saying this!! As someone who's dabbled in both writing and music there are things only prosaic writing can do (the ways it lets you explore characters' inner worlds, the ways you can present very specific subjective views of things); there are things only music can do (efficiently broadcasting an unparalleled atmosphere and emotional space) and as far as I can think of visual novels are the only medium where those two coexist without having to compromise on either. Add visuals and interactivity to that? It honestly baffles me the medium is so pigeonholed into dating sims as far as general conscience is concerned cause it has truly so much potential.

TADC will not address Jax's gender situation explicitly but it WILL end in an epilogue showing how the characters are holding up a while after discovering they're stuck in the circus and this scene WILL (without acknowledging it) feature Jax as a woman
Trust me on this I have family who works at the Gooseworx
Producing music is so crazy cause it's got me out here saying stuff like "This peaks too much and also it needs more mid"
