We’re all fans of animals because we love animals and how animals they can be. All gatekeeping the animals fandom does is make it harder for newer fans to share their enjoyment of animals.

I know getting into animals can be intimidating, because there is just so much content, and having older fans say things like “you’re not a REAL animals fan unless you know Artiodactyla’s 5 greatest hits” or “all new fans these days care about is Canidae while us Viverridae fans are dwindling” isn’t helping.

On that note, there are a lot of great animals that can help new people get involved in the fandom. I love the dhole because it’s so animals while being accessible to people who have become fans of animals more recently.
