When I listened to this song I mainly had the image of William from Moriarty the Patriot in my head. I imagined all the emotions and thoughts that Liam is hiding inside, not letting them out. And especially those thoughts that he is thinking about Sherlock and is aware that he is thinking about him too. That mutual desire to catch and not be caught really makes this song sound like a love song.
