TRANSFEMINIST SYLLABUS
What is transfeminism? How can we understand transfeminism as a theoretical framework, social justice movement, and intervention into trans and feminist discourses, experiences, histories, and futures? How do experiences and theories of transfeminism vary around the world and engage with critical race theories, capitalism, and other hegemonic apparatuses? How has transfeminism emerged within and outside of disciplinary, institutional, and intellectual and activist spaces? How might transfeminism imagine and critically engage with the body, identity, subjectivity, affect, race, gender, the environment, and scientific and medical knowledge and experiences?
Throughout this course, we will seek to ask and answer these and other questions about the possibilities of transfeminism by engaging with the ways in which trans is distributed and enacted across different, transnational, institutional, political, and geopolitical formations, and diffracted across scales and patterns of the shifting material and discursive arrangements of living-being.
