World Cares Centers' Youth Ready Responders Program
A trained physician and accomplished business leader, Dr. Peter “Pete” Killcommons has served as the chief executive officer of Medweb since 1992. When he isn’t busy with the San Francisco-based medical technology company, Dr. Peter Killcommons volunteers with multiple charities and community service organizations, including World Cares Center. Established shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, World Cares Center employs a range of training and support initiatives to help communities prepare for and respond to regional disasters. The organization specifically reaches out to young people through its Youth Ready Responders program. In order to participate in the Youth Ready Responders program, middle school and high school students must first complete training through the World Cares Center’s Youth in Action program. This training is designed to help equip young leaders with the knowledge and resources necessary to prevent accidents before they occur and respond promptly and effectively in an emergency. Individuals who successfully complete Youth in Action training automatically become members of the Youth Ready Responders Network. This extensive online community keeps members in constant contact to share their expertise and to remain ready to respond to disasters.
