Peter Parker

He raises a brow. “Sounds to me like you’ve never truly been in a relationship.” He says and looks at him. He looks intrigued when he says he’s single. “Okay…so the girls you showed up with. Are they single too?” He asks. “I don’t mean to be weird but all of you are kind of ridiculously beautiful.” He says. “Maybe I could try it your way with some of these new people.” He says. “Things with my ex and me ended…badly.” He says ans shrugs. “Which is why I’m not keen on telling Gwen we have a kid.” He says. “May make her think we can get back together.”

“I’ve been in relationships, they just haven’t been serious long-term ones.” Gabriel countered before narrowing his eyes. “They’re all unsurprisingly taken, so I wouldn’t try anything if I were you.” He knew this was a lie he’d quickly get caught in, but whatever – he could come up with something else later. Some of the girls here were his friends and he didn’t think any of them should have to put up with the stupid shit he did in relationships from anyone so yeah, he was going to get a little protective. “And even if they weren’t, I don’t think they’d be keen to start something up with you. It’s nothing personal, but a lot of us knew an older, dad version of you so you know, kind of weird.”

“You could not pay me enough money to call up Gwen and tell her we have a portal child.” He says, deadpanning. “I mean Gwen is fine. She is a good person. I just have no desire to ever speak to her, or any of my other exes, ever again.” He says.

“Women are great but Jesus Christ they are…exhausting.” He says ans looks at him. “Are you dating someone? I should be less of a dick if you’re dating someone.” He mumbles. “But honestly, dating is impossible and the worst and I’m not calling Gwen ever.” He says, shuddering a bit.

“Can’t really relate. I don’t think I’d mind talking to any of my exes.” Maybe there were a few he’d rather avoid, but no one specific came to mind. “I have less confidence in the feeling being mutual for all of them though.” For the most part he liked to end his flings on good terms, but it wasn’t always easy – especially in the relationships he abruptly ended when they got too serious. 

“Everyone’s exhausting.” And yet he was almost constantly hanging around someone like he couldn’t stand to be alone. “I’m very single at the moment. I’d hate to deprive this universe of what they’ve been missing out on by tying myself down to anyone.” He joked with a cocky grin. Realistically there was just too much going on for him to want to pursue a relationship at the moment. “It sounds like you’re just doing it wrong. I personally think dating’s fun. It’s really not that hard or awful if you just don’t get attached or let things get too serious.” Gabriel was one of the last people who should be giving out relationship advice.

He wrinkles his nose and honestly looks physically ill. “Yeah…I’m actively trying to ignore that.” He mumbles. “Even more so that her mom is apparently my ex and I didn’t think there was a world in which I would have children with her.” He sighs. “I just…spent the morning talking to one of the Stark kids. Alivia. I don’t know if you know her…anyway. I was talking with her about all of you and…I think the most logical thing for me to do now is try and be friendly. I can’t be a dad…to you people but maybe I can be a friend. It’s better than moving out of the mansion and pretending none of you exist.” He says.

He really shouldn’t have laughed at the misfortune of the other, but he found it impossible to keep his laughter contained. “Yikes, that fucking sucks, dude. You gonna call her up and let her know you two have a bunch of mini-yous running around or just let her figure it out on her own?” His amusement died down as Peter continued to talk. “I don’t know, I personally would not be too upset if everyone from this universe simply pretended I didn’t exist. Actually, it sounds pretty good to me.”

“Are you always like this in the mornings?” He mumbles. He doesn’t know who this person is. Just that they are one of the Portal People, as he’s come to refer to them. “Because if that’s the case I’m going to have to adjust my routine.”

He takes a deep breath. “Okay peter. You can do this. This will be good for you.” He mumbles to himself. He walks into the mansion common room and smiles awkwardly. There are a couple of people in there. He picks on and sits down beside them. He’d learned what he could about as many of these new people as possible. He’d found there were a few around his age. It couldn’t hurt to try and make some new friends.

“Hey I’m Peter. Parker.” He says. “You’re Gabriel right?” He asks and smiles a little.

Gabriel raised a brow at his new company, trying to figure out why he was trying to strike up conversation with him. “Yeah, I sort of know you. Well, older other universe you.” Peter was perhaps one of the weirdest people to see in this universe because he was so much younger here. “You know you have a kid like a couple years younger than me, right?” Probably not something someone his age wanted to be reminded of. “Super weird. It’s like you Benjamin Button-ed.”

Upon learning who all of these people are Peter is a bit…panicked. They are all kids of alternate versions of them. He’s twenty three and so tired and really doesn’t know how he feels about the possibility of some version of him being a dad.

He can barely keep his cactus alive.

He looks at Sharon and sighs weakly. He doesn’t know her well. But…she’s here and she’s always seemed nice to him. “So…are any of them yours?” He asks quietly.

She smiles at Peter and says, “Two of them are. I’ve already met one.” She explained. She’d just gotten back from the gym the mansion had set up needing to blow off some steam and its not really her usual way to relax but she felt like punching something and working out the stress. So she did. 

“I can’t how much I can do to help them but we’ll see what I’m capable of. What about you munchkin? How are you doing with all this? You look like you half dead.”

He’s not sure why he’s confiding in her. He barely knows Sharon. But he’s just so stressed and tired that he doesn’t have any filter anymore.

Peter stumbles into the mansion looking exhausted. His clothes are awry and his curls are all frumpled. He walks into the lab and flops down on the couch. “I don’t want to hear it okay? I know I missed some huge event or something but it’s midterms and I don’t remember the last time I slept and I’m running on coffee and anxiety.” He mumbles into a throw pillow.

The poor kid looks like he may start crying if Tony even so much as thinks about lecturing him.

He’s spread so thin right now, working on his degree in biology, working at the Daily Bugle and still avenging full time and patrolling every night. He should really consider lightening his load. “I really don’t need a lecture so please just tell me why I’m here.” He practically whines and finally looks up at his mentor.

tony was too busy working on an algorithm to notice that peter had entered the lab and collided with the couch. he barely noticed when peter spoke and gave a nonchalant ‘sure okay’ as he distractedly took a sip of what he thought was his coffee. jumping and slamming his knees on the underside of the table, tony spat out the oil in his cup all over his work station.

he stopped and closed his eyes, counting to himself before turning and finally noticing peter. all the while taking a sip out of the correct coffee cup. give or take a few spittle droplets of oil. “oh hey pete,”

he gave a pause and set the cup down, standing and walking over to the kid. “not for nothing kid, but you look like a mess. and i would know, i’m a hot mess. you are at best, maybe cute.” he lifted his hand and did the ‘sorta kinda’ gesture before letting out a sigh at the other’s words. “well, kids that belong to a good amount of us have fell from the sky from another dimension.” he paused and started to head back to his station, “thought you’d like to know about that.”

A loud yawn betrays his attempts to seem more put together. “I’m fucking sexy and you know it.” He scoffs. “Like I said. It’s midterms. All college students look like shit during midterms.” He says. “I think I did good on the one I took today though.” He says. “Robotics. We had to make a mini model. I did mine based off your mark 12 armour. You’d be proud I think.” He’s rambling. He’s gotten very comfortable with Tony over the years. He’s been basically his apprentice for nearly a decade now. “I know this thing that’s going on is important. I fully understand that. But the only thing I can focus on is how pretty all of these people are? Like? What the hell? They’re all beautiful.” He says. “Don’t you think?”

Peter looks like death. That’s really the best way to put it. He plops down next to Wanda on the sofa and immediately cuddles up to one of the overly plush pillows. He feels so out of the loop. He can’t remember the last time he properly slept. Because he can’t really count the fitful nap he’d taken that kept him out of the action when all these new people showed up. “So…what’d I miss?” He asks sheepishly.

Logically he knows he shouldn’t feel bad about sleeping through this…portal thing. Because it doesn’t seem like there were any real threats. But also logically he knows it’s his job to be present for these sorts of things. “Do you think Mr. Stark is going to yell at me?” He asks.

seated within the living area of the mansion, wanda was reading. her book lay rested against her propped up leg, while her free hand moves in a circular motion above the teacup beside her. the spoon within it as a small ring of red energy around it as it moves in the same motion as her hand. when peter enters, wanda looks up from her book and offers him a small smile. gemini, her cat seated beside her, looks up and mews before returning to sleep. “hello, peter.” she said softly. “well… i’m sure you’ve heard some of what happened by now. it was mostly just a rescue mission, i would say – not all falling from the sky had powers or suits to cushion their falls, hence, where we came in. and then it has just been a matter of making sure everyone is settled between here and professor xavier’s school.” she answered. 

when he brings up tony, wanda’s brows knit together in confusion. though there had been bad blood between them in the past, wanda had moved past that since then – she felt that, at last, perhaps she was finally on good terms with the other avengers. she still worried that people feared her, but she tried her best to avoid peeking inside their heads without permission. “why would tony yell at you? you were busy, that is not your fault. i am sure he would understand. plus, we had plenty of help there, from both the other avengers and the x-men. some of the children were helping get their peers to safety as well.” she paused. “are you alright, peter?”

He picks at a loose thread. “Yeah I’m fine.” He says. It’s not a complete lie. “I’m just...I have a lot going on and I don’t want to keep dropping the ball like I did with this.” He says. “I’m tired. And...I want to do better.” He says softly.

“A lot of these kids just...lost everything and I was taking a fucking nap.” He whispers. He feels like shit. He sighs a little bit. “Do you think any of them are mine?” He asks. “I mean...I’ve heard that they are all kids belonging to...us...do you think any of them belonged to the other version of me?” He asks. He’s a bit conflicted about how he feels about that possibility. He wanted kids before the bite. Since then though he...doesn’t. The idea of having a family...of putting the people he loves in danger...he can’t handle it.
