The latest Jonni Peppers film, plus news.
Obsessive: In recent years, you’ve taken most of your work off YouTube and stopped using social media as much. Could you talk about the reasons for those moves?
Jonni: I’d been planning it for a while and was hesitant, but I was inspired to make the leap…
I decided I preferred an audience that was respectful of the time and effort I put into my work, rather than internet virality. I felt that strangers having immediate, 24/7 access to raw art pieces about my feelings and life didn’t feel right — and actually had been making me feel bad for a long time. The way I’d been displaying my work was detrimental to my mental health, was financially irresponsible and was putting out the wrong message about how I’d like people to engage with it.

The move comes on the heels of a major Q2 loss for the media conglomerate, as well as its decision to close the Boomerang streamer.
The Cartoon Network website has had a long history of being the go-to place for kids to play games and watch videos based on brands like Scooby-Doo, Teen Titans, The Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball. Its shutdown reportedly occurred on August 8, but some international versions still appear to be live today as of press time. It’s unclear if they are also expected to close soon and redirect to the corresponding WBD service in their respective regions.

The fantastical porcelain figurines of Anya Stasenko and Slava Leontyev are a tiny part of co-director Brendan Bellomo and producer Aniela Sidorska’s documentary Porcelain War – winner of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. grand jury prize award for documentary.
The film features three two-minute vignettes where small ceramic figures, seated in woodland settings, appear to come to life with hand-painted illustrations that flow across their surfaces. The animation, created at BluBlu Studios in Warsaw, Poland, plays in counterpoint to the story of the figurines’ creators – Anya and Slava – and the film’s cinematographer Andrey Stefanov, in present-day Ukraine
In 1978, Cinefantastique magazine had an alluring cover, painted by fantasy and science fiction illustrator Barclay Shaw, depicting a bipedal Lizard Man at a high-tech control panel dispatching flying saucers to primordial planet Earth. The 18-page cover story … heralded … a grand creature feature – The Primevals – magnum opus of stop-motion animator David W. Allen.
Forty-six years after the CFQ story appeared, The Primevals premiered at Fantasia Film Festival in Toronto, Canada, in July 2023. Three months later, the film played at the 56th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain. A few months later, the film opened in a limited theatrical release and then launched on streaming platforms this past May. A three-disc collector’s edition Blu-ray box set arrives in August.

Since childhood, LOUISON has been going from one school to another, from one friendship to another, to the rhythm of her parents' missions. This year, at 11 years old, no longer a question of continuing to travel the world. It's decided, Louison wants to put her suitcases at the boarding school of the Collège des Amandiers where she can finally build real friendships! Both with enthusiasm and apprehension, Louison meets her two roommates AN and SAM who welcome her with joy and good humour.
But her first evening takes a completely different turn when THE PINK PLASTIC PONY she won in a draw in the afternoon reveals to her that he chose it to defend the college against awful monsters that are rampant there!
This is how she meets JEAN-PIERRE, super-pony and superheroin coach...
And that's not all: Jean-Pierre will be able to transform her into a " WONDER PONY", a superhero with a costume, a ponytail and a mask. With the strength of the pony, and a little training, she will be able to defeat monsters whose only purpose is to prevent and break friendship ties.
Janus Films has released the official trailer for a 4K restoration of the 1982 animated sci-fi classic, The Time Masters, aka Time Masters or Les Maîtres du Temps in French. Directed by René Laloux, who is best known for the hugely influential Fantastic Planet (1973), the movie first opened in the U.S. in 1984. The classic title is also famous for being one of the few cinematic works designed and co-dwritten by iconic fantasy artist Jean Giraud (aka Moebius). The film will be getting a theatrical re-release on July 26 in select U.S. theaters.
