i've started to think this is maybe related to how lemuria fell. i've always thought they were a fallen civilization that originally resided in the heavens/in the sky and there was a reason why they ended up being located on the ocean floor and were so very dependent on their sea god to protect them. i think this myth is about the becoming of the first sea god. there might have been a war, and lemuria either lost, or had to go into hiding, and their leader (which. of course rafayel) had to take on the mantle of the sea god, or transformed into the sea god after losing (or abandoning) his previous mantle. the burning heart maybe suggests there was betrayal involved, but it might also be quite literal, you never know with these -- because we have to explain somehow how rafayel got his fire when he's also the sea god somehow.
