i think there's a flaw in my code

“She used to be a nerd in a lab.” Kara laughed,

“Mmm. Sorry to burst your bubble, but she’s dating a detective.”

“Alas, my heart is shattered. It’s okay, there are plenty more amazing ladies for me to hold a candle for. I just have to make sure I don’t set the place on fire on accident.” she joked, snorting.

“Training will definitely help, trust me.” Kara smiled, “Our little secret, but it really helped Agent Danvers.”

“Really?” she asked, letting out a low giggle. “She’s... amazing though.”

Kara’s expression screamed ‘are fucking kidding me, right now’ toward the blonde. Her cousin was dying and she had waited for a device that might work. Grabbing the device, Kara pushed off the ground, a boom echoing around them as the Kyrptonian hit and then broke the sound barrier.

Tossing the device at the bomb, she zoomed toward her cousin, landing in front him as he fell to his knees. Hissing against the kryptonite waves radiating from the lead based capsule, Kara raised her arms so her cape covered the both of them from the feedback from the device.

As soon as Kara activated the device the Kryptonite infused bomb deactivated with a low hiss. Kaylee took a shaky step back. It had worked. There’d been some discharge from the weapon, of course, but it worked. Of course that wouldn’t stop Kaylee from spending the next few days or even weeks contemplating if it hadn’t. She’d fixate on it, anxiety growing more and more until there was a catalyst. It’s how she worked, there was no getting around it. Even the multitude of medications she took wouldn’t stop her from beating herself up over what might have been. 

Kaylee gathered herself together and ran out into the field towards the two Kryptonians (like an absolute idiot given that there was still an ongoing conflict) and put herself between the two and the remains of the now defunct bomb. She was pulling it apart, taking what she could from it and rendering it even more useless as she went. She didn’t seem to care if she was putting herself in danger, in fact she pretty much looked like she had a damn death wish. Once done she leaned back against the concrete, one hand holding her up and the other clutching a pulsing core to the device she’d just rendered useless. “They can’t get this back.”

“He might be annoyed, but he won’t fire you.”  She chuckled, raising an eyebrow at the astonishment. “No problem, and yeah, I suppose.” She shrugged. “It’s just not shocking to me, really.”

“I’ll talk to Agent Danvers. I’m sure there has to be a beginners class.”

“Cool. I want to learn and get better but I’ve always been a klutz. I remember breaking my foster mom’s vase once and I thought she was going to send me back. I had a heart attack. I mean, she didn’t. It was all cool.... but I’ve always been like this.”

“you’d think i’d be able to come up with a better reply by now but i’m still not all that good at it.”

She snorted at that, small nervous smile playing on her lips. “You’re at least relatively charismatic.”

“Kal-el is my family!” Kara snapped, turning toward the woman and glaring. “Maggie and Alex will be fine if that bomb explodes–but its made out of lead! Do you know what could be in there? Kryptonite! If it explodes and gets near any vital organs–” 

“If my cousin dies, I will hold you responsible.” 

“You will not be the only one holding me responsible if he dies. Trust me.” she murmured softly as she finished up. “Here! It’s done.” she sprinted to the door, flinging herself out of it and aiming what she’d just finished creating at the bomb. “Fuck, it needs to be closer! Supergirl! Get it as close as you can and activate it. It will neutralize the bomb.”

“Is that a thing with techies?” Kara chuckled, watching the blonde. Frowning in concern as she rubbed her wrist, the alien blinked, focusing on her xray vision,  to look at the other’s wrist. “It’s not broken or fractured.” She told the other, before following her gaze. “It’‘s okay, I know your boss–he nearly shattered his cellphone when I jumped off a building.”

“You should get some field training, really helps.”

"Does that mean maybe he won’t be annoyed?” her voice was filled with hope but it was clear that she knew she’d be fine. When Kara x-rayed her she looked astonished, smiling slightly. “Hey, thanks. And, to be fair to Boss Man, I would have too.” she brushed her clothing off and straightened herself out, clutching the tablet to her chest.
