He did not miss her surprise. “I am half Atlantean, half human. The only one of which I know to exist. I can survive on land and in water, while human would die in water without assistance and Atlanteans would die on shore much the same. Therefore I can remain here, though my home is underwater,” he explained. “I have some some substitutes, but you have little in the way of deep sea food here.”

She nodded slowly in understanding. “I see... Deep sea food isn’t exactly a thing that everyone here likes. I just happen to like fish a lot.”

“I get that a lot.”

Kamala smiled. “It’s no big deal. I get confused all the time. So... you can phase through walls? Like... quantum physics? Or...?”

“I feel as if that’s our fault, but we’re here now. You’re an Inhuman though, it won’t be strange to approach them. After all they are the King and Queen. I’d be careful about approaching Maximus, but that’s something else entirely. I could introduce you if you want.” Crystalia offered. “You got a good power. You’re lucky.”

“It’s mildly strange because I might screw something up. I don’t know about all the traditions and rules and regulations for meeting royalty. I mean.” Oh wald il hawyaa. Crystalia was royalty too. Shit, shit, shit. “Ah, yeah, no I’ve met Maximus. He was claiming to speak for the king but I wasn’t quite sure he really was...” She nodded. “I would like to meet them though.” She smiled and tilted her head. “What’s your powers, if you don’t mind me knowing?”

“That’s still so cool!” Jubilee sighed, making a big show out of it. “I want to stop crimes. You ever think about sneaking out and stopping any?” If she couldn’t convince Ms. Marvel to sneak off maybe she could ask Remy to. He could talk his way out of anything. “Mutant puberty’s boring. One minute you’re normal, the next your sparking strangers. I thought I was going crazy at first.”

Kama was nothing if not someone who wanted to help people as much as she could and she couldn’t stuck in the school. “You know how to sneak out? I don’t even have my driver’s license so I’m kinda stuck here, really.” She smiled. “I still would have had that than the crystals. At least with mutant puberty, you don’t get stuck in a chrysalis.”

“Oh, I suppose that’s better than a bomb. Regardless, I’ll ask my cousin about it.” Crystalia shoved aside her hesitance to smile back at her fellow Inhuman. “I’d imagine. I’m jealous.”

“Please do. I’m... I’ve been doing my research into Atillan and the Inhumans but there’s not a lot out there. I’ve been meaning to figure out a way to approach him and Queen Medusa without seeming strange. I have so many questions.” She smiled. “It’s definitely lovely. And it’s useful for a secret identity.”

Crystalia fully released the girl, stepping away as she processed. “A Terrigenesis bomb? I don’t… I don’t think that was ever supposed to happen.” Did Black Bolt and her sister know? She’d have to tell them. “Regardless, that’s an excellent ability to have.”

“Okay, I say bomb because that’s what it felt like. It was an accident with a crystal and I went through Terrigenesis.” She smiled. “I rather like being able to shapeshift. It’s good for bad hair days.”

“You’ve fought and stuff? For real? That’s so rad! I just put on shows in the mall for dumb tourists. I make fireworks. There’s a super fancy name for it that they told me when I got here. ” Jubilee had heard whispers of Ms. Marvel being at the school but she wasn’t sure Kamala was really her until now. She was meeting a real live blushing superhero who wasn’t an adult. Maybe the school wasn’t that dumb. “Yeah, but crystals! I just hit mutant puberty.”

“Yeah, I really just stopped a few muggings around my neighborhood and a few crimes. Wasn’t anything big. But it was nice to be useful.” She laughed a tad shyly. She wasn’t used to being well known. “The crystals weren’t anything huge, just affected me. Don’t know why it didn’t affect anyone else in the area. Maybe just got lucky. Mutant puberty would have been nicer than the crystals, I’m guessing.”

“Right! I know it’s a big bad world out there but aren’t we a little bit talented to have made it this far? We could help them fight the androids! Or aliens!” Jubilee clapped her hands together. “I think you’re the first Inhuman I’ve really met! I’m a mutant. I didn’t get to play with any cool crystals. How lame it that? What’s your power? Besides being really pretty.”

“That’s exactly what I was thinking! Aren’t we more use out there? I mean, I’ve gotten around as Ms. Marvel. I know what I’m doing! More or less.” Kama grinned. “You’re the first mutant I’ve met! That I know of.” She laughed. “The process wasn’t the easiest. She blushed. She hadn’t really been called pretty before. “I’m a shapeshifter. Make myself look like anyone. Useful for having a secret identity. What are you powers?”

“I’m really over weird kid school, ya know? I get it. We’re special. People want to hurt us. I just want to be able to use the shower without someone accidentally making the water boiling or turning it into frogs or whatever. Wait, you had an accident? Like a powers related accident?”

“I get ya,” Kamala said. “We aren’t safe out there, blah blah blah.” She nodded. “Not directly powers related. More like what gave me my powers. Turns out I’m an Inhuman, and there was an accident with a Terrigenesis crystal and here I am.”

“Right?! I think it’s the strangest thing I know. Besides here. Here’s pretty weird.” Jubilee tilted her head, eagerly listening. “Woah. How’d you learn that one? MTV too?”

She laughed. “Here is pretty weird, but my life has been pretty weird since the accident, so.” She shrugged. “I’m not actually sure, it’s just something I heard somewhere and latched on to.”

“Well, yeah. They were on the news like six or seven months back because someone tried to poison a bunch of them with carbon monoxide. And, anyway, I started looking in to them and then MTV did a documentary on them and I really like learning about weird things. Your turn! Weird fact time, Marvel. Weirdest one you know!”

“That’s strange, man. That’s just really really strange.” She shrugged. “The most popular first name in the world is Muhammad. Which is probably related to the fact that Islam is one of the most popular religions in the world.”

“Okay, soooo some of them think they’re animals but not all of them do. I think. And it’s not like a religious or native spirit thing! It’s total appropriation almost! But I think those are therians…I’m not totally sure but the other half of them is like forty year old men who like foxes and shit. Does that make sense?”

Kamala stared. “That’s... really freaking weird, you know that right? How on earth did you learn all this?” she asked, mildly worried for the other girl.

“What part? The dressing up as animals or the meetings?”

“...both.”

Carol started, hastily wiping at her eyes. “Oh. Sorry, didn’t hear you come in. I was just–” She sniffled lightly, schooling her expression into something resembling neutral. “–just thinking. Sorry, I should… Was there something you needed?”

“I... I’m sorry to intrude but... You have office hours now don’t you? I’m Kamala Khan. I’m in Kree/Skrull War History...” Oh shit, this was Carol Danvers. Her mentor. Who was crying. But holy shit it was Carol Danvers.

“What do you call an ant that enjoys being alone? An Independant.”

Kamala groaned. “That’s... terrible,” she said, biting back laughter. “You’re new here aren’t you? I haven’t seen you around before.”

“It’s okay. You don’t need be so sweet.” Raven gave a crooked smile, “Well, I’m guessing you haven’t accidently sassed the joint chiefs of staff. I guess it certainly makes life more interesting.” 

Her face flashed with confusion for a moment. “I didn’t think I was actually sweet, but thanks?” She let out a small laugh. “I haven’t accidentally sassed the joint chiefs of staff. I would like to one day.”
