he wonders if gero can sense him approach. most likely. it’s not like cell is trying to be overtly sneaky. he could be if he tried. he’d probably succeed too-- but this is HOME, his place of birth, so to speak. so he should be comfortable here. 

and yet. something always tells him to be on his guard. even around the man who gave him this unfinished life. 

a loud rasp leaves his throat. if the good doctor hasn’t seen him, he’s definitely heard him now. cell doesn’t mind. there’s something in this workshop that interests him a lot-- and he finds the pull quite enjoyable. his slinking comes to a halt when he places a hand on a lonely metal cylinder. not unlike his glass tank, he thinks. but more plated, more-- protected. through the tiny window, he can see a human-like outline, a tuft of red hair. cell’s tail swishes back and forth.

❛ oh please. this is all me. ❜ he gestures to himself, a very content placement of his hand on his chest. and then he gestures to his surroundings, somehow trying to encompass everything he's accomplished so far with just a single sweep of an arm. ❛ sure, i was created with a specific purpose in mind but i found it... well, quite beneath me. ❜

can grudges be programmed and transferred through glass? the supercomputer that spoke to him deemed it important for him to know - you will have power / you will have strength / you will defeat our enemies. he internalized the first two statements, yes. but the last one-- something got lost in the translation. after all, there are no our enemies. there are just HIS enemies, CELL'S ENEMIES.

and he likes to think there's only one master of his fate ( him, of course! ) -- but he doesn't speak about the hunger that pushed him out of his glass tank in the first place. the same hunger that made him do the impossible and quite literally bend the time itself to his need. you will be perfect, said the machine. cell didn't understand why in order to become that, he had to be starved first.

but he survived that. he could not die imperfect. and if you asked him why, he'd have no answer.

is that programming? maybe in the same sense as cicadas are programmed to molt. an overwhelming desire to discard the current body or else.

at least cell had the benefit of knowing what awaited him on the other side of his husk.

❛ differently? ❜ he smiles, already proud of the answer he is about to offer. ❛ i'd watch out for cheap shots from vegeta. ❜  

eyes now closed, he continues in the same unhurried tone. ❛ or perhaps i would have skipped goku all together during my wonderful cell games. i thought i was saving best for last-- but that was before gohan showed me his hidden power... yes, perhaps i would skip the disappointing entree and go straight for the kid. motivate him with a death or two and let the real fight commence. ❜

his hand forms a fist, but without a target it remains at his side. it's obvious he thought about this before. the body simply reacts. 

fight &. violence starters / accepting !

when he steps into the arena, everything clicks into place. again, he adds to his thoughts. everything clicks into place again. it makes sense that after hell, he should get to experience heaven now. 

that’s exactly what this silly assortment of rocks in the middle of the void is to him. an audience and a chance to relive the bliss that erased him in the first place. 

❛ maybe. ❜ cell replies, stretches a bit, delivers three quick punches to the air next to him. the excitement is palpable, like something he could sink his teeth into and bite down. something to enjoy like a meal and goodness, he is starved! ❛ but how about facing PERFECTION itself? ❜ 

hand on his hip now, wings flicking playfully. cell stares at his opponent and grins. what a strange lifeform, similar and yet unlike the humans that created him. he doesn’t know what to expect – but that’s the most thrilling part indeed. a glimpse into the future he would get to enjoy after his wonderful games.

// AND NOW ONE OF THE REASONS ive been rotating cell in my head for a while now. 

ofc i was very hyped when they teased cell’s return for dbs: super hero and then a bit disappointed when it turned out to be cell max -- but tbh, in retrospect, i do think it was a better choice. cell max was just the last minute villain and more of a kaiju than an actual enemy. cell wouldve been wasted if he were to pop up for just a second and get nuked by gohan again. so all in all, i think cell max actually kinda rules. norio wakamoto’s performance was actually incredible even though it was all just mindless enraged screams it was just so AUGHGHGH IT WAS SO COOL

so ya, sad that cell didnt come back but cell max rules too. HOWEVER, i am fucking obsesst with the implications of cell max’s existence and what that would to cell personally. because obviously, first he has to confront the fact that people can apparently manufacture him as they please. THEN he would have to confront the fact this other cell emerged from the tank already ALMOST perfect. and much stronger than him. and honestly it would just infuriate cell SO MUCH. to see a version of himself that didn’t have to go through what he did to achieve his perfection, his final form. a version of himself that had everything handed to him, perfect from the start while he had to go through so much (in his mind). 

cell ABSOLUTELY would want to destroy cell max because it would be sooo personal to him and it would made him reevaluate what he has gone through to get to the power level he is now (LETS FORGET HES DEAD IN CANON OK THIS IS A THOUGHT EXERCISE). he wasn’t created perfect, he worked for it and he will do everything to prove it. and im just AUHGHG im goin psycho mode trying to imagine him in that fight against cell max
