Percy was 17 when he started at the ministry. Of course we all know how eager he is to prove himself and how he loves authority because that’s probably what he grew up knowing. Listen to the rules or you get yourself killed (which of course turned out to be true in the ministry in later years..). And what do governments love? Minds that are easy to manipulate. Of course the ministry would capitalize on this, especially if the kid was a Weasley and so desperate to separate himself from his family’s legacy. Of course JKR couldn’t possibly come up with this since Percy was basically her Weasley punching bag besides Ron. Percy had so much potential as a character. To be someone who just finished school and was basically gaslit into believing whatever the ministry wanted, which led him to make such brazen decisions such as to publicly disown his own family. Growing up as someone who heeded the authority of his elders and superiors, of course if he felt like he was finally being recognized, he’d follow whatever they wanted.
