I wanted to gift something to you to celebrate this special occasion. I was inspired by your older art doodle and the follow up piece by @pixiedustandfairypowers…
…and created a story for them. It’s not much but I hope that it can make you feel a bit lighter and that good things do and will come your way, my dear. Please enjoy:
Today is one of those days…Mario just can’t keep the smile on his face and his heart weighs down inside him like an unmoving boulder. His melancholic sighs float unheard among the birdsongs in his surroundings as he sits morosely on the bricks. He doesn’t know why everything feels so unbearable and an ache rises within him, translating into just a few trickles of tears dotting his ocean blue eyes…but over time, the trickles evolve into small unending rivers matching the growing turmoil in his being. His hand swipes away the first of his tears but more soon follow, making the attempt futile and the sobs he tries to suppress only press harder against his hurting chest until finally, he just can’t contain this thunderous tsunami of emotions anymore…he squeezes his eyes shut and curls up, wanting to hide and disappear and hoping nobody would see him being so pitiful and hopeless…
A presence washes over him…it’s like a gentle wave tinged with such sweet and encompassing warmth that makes his heart ache even harder…he peeks from his gloved fingers to find a blurry tinge of green before him…
It’s indeed Luigi. His face is filled with tenderness, sadness, empathy and loving kindness combined that just makes the red clad plumber ache even further…the crunch of his little brother’s boots against some stray leaves and shrubs seem to amplify his presence even more until the younger plumber finally seats himself next to him. Luigi slings his arm around his hunched shoulders, his other gently gripping his elbow and his cheek nuzzling against his wet one. Mario feels more tears bud in his eyelids at the loving gestures. Then Luigi cups his head to press him against his shoulder. Against his nose, he feels the unmistakable delicate links of his little brother’s silver chain. His hand is gripped and placed against a warm solid chest, heart beating steadily and the comforting outlines of his dog tags. Mario shudders longingly and leans more towards his brother when he feels Luigi’s hand mirroring the same with his golden tags…he doesn’t realise how fast his own heart has been beating up until now…and he feels it slowing down to match his little brother’s pace. Pulses of honey warmth pass through their hands treasuring their dog tags encased within.
Luigi’s whisper is filled with unbridled love and comfort, matching the soft kiss bestowed on his brow. More tears appear but this time, they drip down Mario’s face, which now has a small smile emerging under his moustache as he cuddles closer to his little brother, his pillar of solidarity and solace.
The younger plumber rocks his brother back and forth while shushing him, his grip on him grounding as a welcome anchor…he feels lighter…freer…more blissful as the last of his tears finally subside…
“Ti voglio bene, fratellone…”
Peace overrides the hollow ache within him, leaving him drained yet safe in Luigi’s embrace. All the while, their cuddle tightens in their loving aura of their fratellanza…
“Anche io ti voglio bene…fratellino…”
Mario’s sincere whispered reply ignites a gentle, elated smile on Luigi’s face. He knows for now that his big brother is tranquil, his dark demons dispelled for the moment…
