You are very familiar with how the bedroom you share with your boyfriend looks in the dark.

It is filled with splotches of midnight blue, blurry forms that morph into one another, becoming objects of momentary intrigue in the otherwise mind-numbing stillness of 2 AM in the morning.

You are alone in this not-quite dark, eyes having long grown tired of their inability to rest, blankets askew and completely absent from your boyfriend's side of the bed from how many times you've shifted around.

Idle thought soon becomes an insufficient distraction in this purgatory, your mind seeking escape from the nothingness.

It starts with remembering.

It's little things, really. A headline, a name, a place. They settle into your stomach, dropping into the pit of it like a weight in water.

The remembering leads to more remembering. Of lives, of history. And it adds. It adds. and adds. and adds. Until the things you remember are more abstract. Concepts, years, lifetimes.

Somewhere along the way, the facts turn into fiction, into plans. They turn into inescapable questions, then back to pure simple truth.

The thoughts repeat, growing stronger despite protest, and you follow them, if only to escape the boredom.

You begin to hyperventilate.

You cannot take in enough air. You are gasping, clawing at your scalp as it becomes too much. Incoherent noise leaves your mouth, the world blurring in consequence to tears springing up in your eyes. The dread spirals in your stomach, dipping into something heavier. Your hands move from your scalp to your arm, nails biting into the flesh you find there-

He is a sobering breath of air.

Arms go around your torso, encircling you and holding you close. A face hovers near your own, messy black hair tickling your ear. Glasses bite into your neck, a consequence of the odd angle.

The wind doesn't speak, it doesn't have a presence beyond the rawness of existence.

Breath though.

It requires the continuance of life.

The arms- the arms of your boyfriend, tighten around you.

"you alright?"

You barely shake your head, but he gets the message.

You've become aware of your arm, deep scratches stinging as you pull a clawed hand away from it. you don't know what to do with your hands.

John takes one, guiding it in front of you and tracing the ridges and divots with his finger.

"do you want to talk about it?"

You shake your head again.

"alright."

He reaches behind him, returning with a plushie that he guides your arms around. You run a finger over it's button eyes before hugging it tightly.

"try to focus on my breathing. that always helped me whenever i couldn't sleep."

You nod, curling further in his embrace.

Matching your breath to John's, you slowly, finally, drift into sleep.

★— No one can tell if y'all are in a relationship or not.

— You don't even quite know yourself.

★— He'll laugh and deny yall are dating then call you his lover in the next breath.

— All the better when it's someone like Karkat asking about it too,

— Ragebaiting nosy gossips (and you) brings him great satisfaction.

★— You'd be sitting next to him at a party,

— Just talking, like sweet bros that are totally just homies do.

— The next second you're getting pulled practically onto his lap as he whispers into your ear.

— In a way he knows will be perceived as dirty by anyone in the general vicinity of course.

— (In reality he's saying some stupid shit about the compositional advantages for photography of y'all's current location.)

★— Oh and if you were thinking about moving away from the motherfucker, too bad.

— I mean...

— He'll let you,

— But he'll gain the energy of a kicked puppy for the rest of the night.

★— Stay there and accept his im-too-cool-to-full-on-cuddle-in-public-but-i-want-to-so-im-gonna-halfass-it cuddles.

★— Oh and if you catch onto his game and tease him back while other people are around...

— He folds so quick it's downright fucking embarrassing.

— The second you compliment him or call him something sweet, his ears are BRIGHT red.

— You can just see him stumbling over himself in his head as he tries to get the mental gears turning again.

★— And god forbid you hug him,

— He'd rather explode.

— On a somewhat related note,

★— He totally enjoys pet names.

— Not for any genuine reason, 

— Purely for ironic purposes.

— What do you take him for, an un-cool guy?

— Who's un-cool and does things genuinely??

★— Though that isn't to say he doesn't appreciate the way your face goes red whenever he calls you one you're particularly fond of.

— (He's greatly torn between his need to suppress his accent and need to see how you react to being called 'sugar' in his stupid texan drawl)

★— As much as the teasing and scrutiny is amusing to both of you,

— He loves hanging out with you alone so much more.

— He never really got a lot of true alone time, so being able to just exist and breathe is so important to him.

★— And you've become part of his breathing.

— The gestures become less of a performance and more of a comfort, even habit.

— An intertwining of hands, idly fidgeting with your hoodie string, a subconscious lean forward whenever you talk.

— He's still easily flustered and trying a little too hard to be nonchalant.

★— But he's breathing.

DAVE ---☆

★— He can handle horror movies.

— Midsommar? Scream? It?

— He's chill.

— Cool as a popsicle in the middle of Jade's magical fucking ice wonderland.

★— The psychological horror is what gets him.

— It doesn't even have to be explicitly horror.

— Joker wrecks his shit.

— Makes him feel like he's the one with a slipping sense of reality.

— Iron Lung is genuinely a movie he cannot handle.

— The stillness and buildup is just-

— Give him his overstimulating hyper-violence please,

— He can't take it.

★— The first time your try watching something like that, he's eerily still and silent.

— But the second it's over,

— He's YAPPING.

"shits gotta take an insane amount of blood

probably caused hells of shortages in multiple states

you just know that's some guys fetish"

— For the rest of the day.

— He's paranoid and desperately attempting to distract himself.

★— Give this man allllllll the cuddles :(

— He'll cling to you and quietly sob into your shoulder for a bit.

— He'll be fine. Just give him some time.

★— Oh and keep him away from Child's Play and Saw.

— Anything with puppets/dolls really.

★— As for games,

— He'd like multiplayer horror.

★— R.E.P.O or Content Warning are his bread and butter.

— Not too much to worry about.

— And anything involving his friends is fun.

★— He'd also be CRAZZYYY about Slay the Princess.

— He's such a sap

— "This is a love story." gets him so bad.

★— He's a curiosity-killed-the-cat type,

"i don't know what you're talking about im hella good with any of that wicked horrific shit"

— ^ Words of a man about to cling to you for the next 6 hours.

★— He finds value in horror that he can connect with people over.

JADE ---☆

★— Jade was a creepypasta kid.

— She'd stay up late reading stories and scaring herself to death.

— Then do it all again a week later.

★— Odly enough, they're about the only thing that actually scares her.

— She just doesn't get that feeling of vulnerability and suspense from a lot of modern/mainstream horror.

— And I can imagine she has quite the strong stomach for gore,

— Though finds it too edgy/over the top. (She's very appreciative of practical effects though!!)

★— But Internet horror?

— It scratches an itch for her.

★— Liminal Space Photography, ARG's, old obscure SCP's, you get the vibe.

— It's ALLLL about the vibes for her.

★—She'll tell you all about them too.

— Though if you want any details you will be begging.

★— She loves to tease you and get you engaged in whatever she's telling you about.

— Ask about anything and she hits you with the:

"hehehe!! guess you'll just have to see when you read it for yourself ;P"

— Translation: "please beg me to tell you about the thing more I really really want to tell you about the thing!!"

★— This exchange is a frequent occurrence of discussion whenever you two are bent over garden beds.

— And continues into the cuddling that usually transpires afterwards.

★— She's not a gamer, but if you're playing something she finds interesting, she'll wander over and watch like a stray cat.

— And end up asking you a ton of questions.

— Like seriously get ready to explain everything ever.

★— She's a lore hunter with refined taste.

"ugh why did they have to make the timeline so complicated :("

— Her relationship with FNaF is a long and complicated one.

★— Overall, she values horror that hits the vibes TM.

★— You will be watching movies.

— So many movies.

— You're getting quizzed after too.

— You're not escaping his arms until you get through his gauntlet of movie trivia.

★— You find yourself making very niche references as a result,

— Much to the confusion of literally everyone else in your life.

— He gets so smug whenever you make one while he's around though.

— Like "YEAH THAT'S RIGHT. I TAUGHT THEM THAT."

★— Speaking of movies,

— He is SUUUCH a sap.

— Combination of not a lot of romantic experience + encyclopedic knowledge of romance tropes is a hell of a combo.

— Expect the most romantic dates coupled with him acting like you're the most infuriating person he's ever met.

— (He desperately wants you to tell him how good of a job he did, please tell him he's good at this and you love whatever it is.)

★— Honestly he'd probably be pretty good- even a little overzealous, with the surface level romantic stuff.

— But he's gonna struggle with opening up.

★— Being vulnerable is hard, but you're a safe place for him to at least try.

— He won't outright say what he needs, but you learn to recognize his tells.

— And he eventually realizes if he wants something, he's gotta talk about it.

— Hence he does, often in the most abrasive way possible,

— But he's communicating!

— Which is better than the alternative.

★— In the meantime, he's got a endless supply of gossip and opinions to start conversations.

— You will be hearing a LOT about anyone who ever fucked up ever.

— Lots of overblown, dramatic

"I HAVE A CRUCIAL DATE WITH AS MANY OF YOUR HUMAN CHEMICALS AS POSSIBLE, TO TRY AND ERASE THE IMAGE OF THIS FLAMING PILE OF FROTHING HORSESHIT FROM MY THROBBING PHLEM GLOBE."

— People (and trolls) suck sometimes.

— He'll eventually calm down.

— (Especially with cuddles. Cuddles definitely help.)

★— He’s totally chill to just curl up and cuddle with a motherfucker.

— And he’s just sooooo fluffy

★— His hair will get in your face, and mouth, and nose.

— Especially since he likes laying on top of you.

★— He runs extremely cold somehow, so he’ll press his hands to the back of your neck or forehead or wherever you want.

— Though you will also become his personal heater occasionally.

★— His makeup will also 100% rub off on you, that motherfucker does NOT use primer or setting spray.

— Sometimes he’ll purposefully hOnK :o) and boop his nose against yours to leave a little bit of paint there.

★— Cuddling with him is always very warm and soft, but it gets 100x more enjoyable if you can coax him into the shower with you beforehand

— Gets all the sopor and egregious layers of makeup off

— Any water he’s using is STEAMING, and someone’s going to overheat (it’s going to be you)

— He’ll sorta just pick you up afterwards and go lie down with you somewhere when that happens

★— He’d probably have a bit of fur/fluff on his stomach and chest, and you are more than welcome to bury your face in it

— Just get very used to the smell of faygo and sopor

— That shit is baked IN

— Its not all that bad, just very particular

★— The motherfucker also loves to kiss you while cuddling

— He’d let you do whatever you wanted

— So long as he’s able to keep trailing kisses up the side of your neck, your arms, and just about anywhere else he can reach

— Honestly they can’t even really be described as kisses with the amount of licking and biting involved

— He’s a cat in that regard
