Today the Brazilian LGBT community mourns the death of iconic actor and comedian Paulo Gustavo at only age 42.

Paulo Gustavo was not only an icon to the LGBT community, but one of the most popular comedians in the whole country! He had a way of being loved even by cishets, despite being known mainly for his drag performances!

Brazil is the world's leading country in hate crimes against LGBT people. More LGBT people get murdered in Brazil per year than any other country in the world, so we hold our gay icons very close to our hearts. Being queer in Latin America is not easy. And Paulo, an openly queer comedian, really brought us so much joy whilst making it look like the easiest thing in the world.

This is truly a massive loss for the Brazilian LGBT community.

Paulo Gustavo leaves behind his husband and his two children.

If you can, please leave your condolences to a Brazilian person if you know any, particularly those of us who are LGBT. This loss feels really heavy.
