Writing Career: Take Two
It’s been less than two years this time! I’m getting better! So you may have noticed a couple of changes here. Primarily that the blog is now fully named after me once more, and that the headers have all been updated. Well, there’s a reason for that: I’ve decided I want to get back into writing properly. Why? I’m going back to the writing group I joined on Monday.
I have not yet finished the story I started for it. It is also my birthday weekend.
I am gonna need a small miracle, folks.
Update: the miracle happened.
I’m definitely going to want to re-write the story, but I put a first draft down on paper and that’ll bloody do. The writing group I’m in doesn’t do critique, anyway.
Time to terrifying a bunch of old people with a story about horrible things happening in a cave, woo!

So I made some cappuccino brownie bites for Rock Choir this evening (I go to Rock Choir now, it’s neat) and on the plus side, they absolutely slap, but on the downside, I need to go clean up my kitchen and I’m all out of spoons.
I need somebody to pick me up like a recalcitrant Mii and drop me over there to finish what I started.
Update: I did go and finish what I started, and I had a shower, only for me to then get caught up in the Internet because I was utterly out of spoons and forget to go to Rock Choir.

Didn’t quite manage to complete NaPoWriMo in one month this year, but I wrote more poems in a month than I had for a while, so I’m darn proud of myself.

Is there anything more satisfying than finally re-learning the name of the piece of art that inspired you to write one of your best short stories almost eight years ago?
Well yes, probably, but I’m still tremendously satisfied that I found “Self-Portrait as a Drowned Man” by Jeremy Millar again. Sitting on the floor by that sculpture and using it as writing inspiration was amazing and I need to do that again sometime. Maybe even go to the Turner Contemporary again.
That NaPoWriMo life where you’re banging out three prompts from last year while massively sleep-deprived because you want to finish both sets of prompts for this year by the end of the month and you would be trying to get some of 2022 and 2023 done but the next 2023 prompt is an abecedarian poem and there’s no bloody way you’re doing that when you’ve been awake from 12.30 noon on Tuesday until 9.46 p.m. Wednesday with maybe an hour or two of sleep in the middle.

Didn’t expect to make myself cry about Laika the dog today while writing poetry, but that’s what happened.
Also I’m a day behind on NaPoWriMo but also I’m trying to do this year and last year simultaneously so I’m writing loads of poems, get off my back (I say as though anybody is chastising me about this bar my own inner critic)

If there is one thing I will say about the annexe I live in, it’s that I love how I ended up decorating it because it’s not all white and sterile!
The bathroom’s quite white, but it’s got purple accents. The hall is half white and the rest is brown and it has a huge red pin board covered in pins and things so it’s got plenty of colour. The bedroom’s mostly green. And the living room and kitchen are cream and brown but they have orange and gold accents (and a wee bit of red in the baking corner).
I can’t stand that minimalism where everything’s white all the time. Give me colour.
My catch-up NaPoWriMo poem for yesterday ended up being a scathing indictment of the Labour Party in rhyme. What jolly times!
(I am very left wing and do not like the current Labour Party for being full of centrists, transphobes and shitweasels.)
Just finished the prompt for Day 11 of NaPoWriMo and it is the 14th, so yes I am behind, but I have also written a poem every single day despite having had a migraine for two of them. So I deserve a medal for Being Very Brave About This.
Or y’know. A brain that isn’t trying to make me suffer. One of the two.
I’m gonna catch up. It’s fine.
Did Day 12 as well.
Incidentally I managed to write a poem every day and yet still be behind by a) writing some prompts from the 2022 list and b) writing a poem yesterday that had nothing to do with the prompts and was just me complaining about the migraine.
