To slow it down, not go so fast, to blend in with slower humans, was a challenge.ย Every aspect of being a vampire was, really, even still. She trusted him and that was evident in the way she held onto himโฆ but that didnโt mean that he wasn't ALWAYS tempted to drink her dry when he came across her. Her blood smelled divine as if it were purposely created just for him. He had found ways to pay less attention to that but rather her scorching heat pressed against him as he moved, dodging people and objects on their way. Hearing her heart beat? It sounded like music to his ears.
When his feet stood outside his door, her in his arms, he felt regret. Maybe he should've taken the scenic route but would it of mattered if she couldn't exactly see it? His braced himself for some sort of invisible impact as she began to stand freely now, hands only falling once she seemed balanced enough to do so herself.
Her statement didn't catch him off guard. In fact, he suspected such would come. "I am indeed, yes, a vampire. Just as you are a witch." Roman added, hoping to help her see that witches and vampires were indeed real. If she could believe such of him, could she believe the same of herself? "Would it surprise you to learn that despite my cold flesh, my heart still beats? Merely slower than yours but still the same." It was the reason he could still grow hair or sometimes appear flushed. The cold skin, however, is from perfectly timed feedings. He still had to be careful.ย
Roman moved to unlock his door before glancing back to the woman, the very woman he had loved for so long, debating on how to answer her question but knew that he must. "I've met you so many times, Penny, so much so that it seems as if the universe has decided to laugh at my plight. Even so, I didn't know you'd be here this time but that's how it happens. I came when I heard about the mermaid that had been killed and then the human? It's a shame, truly." There was more of course, but he wasn't sure if she were ready to hear such tales. "You've lived many lives before this one. Always the same with subtle differences to you so I ask, do you ever feel the need to run away? That's usually how I met you. Sometimes before, sometimes after. You once fell in love with a man who swore he loved the seas more than he'd ever love another person but he loves you just the same." HE? LOVES? But he didn't draw attention to her fleeting remark. Not yet anyway.
Moving on, Roman moved to allow her to enter the apartment he more or less made a home. It wasn't anything fancy really; not this time, with no photographs you could see, nothing to reveal a personality other than how neat and clean it was, and a couch in the living room but no dinning room table to match with the kitchen. In fact, he had only really used the microwave for other purposes. In the living room area, if you could really call it that, resided a very large crate like trunk that had seen better days. It had after all, traveling the seas for so many years that Roman could've sworn he could still smell the salty air any time he neared it. "Let me get the grimoire for you. I'd offer you something to drink but I'm not even sure the fridge is plugged in."
Her green eyes looked at him intensely, searching his deep brown eyes. Despite the fact he'd just revealed himself to be a creature of the night, she felt no fear, and looking into those eyes she could see the soul of a kind, loving man. Gently, she reached out a hand and placed it on his chest, feeling for his heartbeat. Sure enough, after a few beats of her own, one generous thump met her touch from inside his chest. Her fingers lingered there for a moment, ever so slightly brushing the hair that peeked through the top of his shirt, before she pulled away and cleared her throat awkwardly.
"So - is this the part where you're gonna eat me?" It was a half-joke. She knew nothing about vampires, and next-to-nothing about Roman. Her heart dropped when he confirmed what she already knew. "I knew it. You're him..."
"All my life there's been this man in my dreams, almost like a shadow following me but good." Her throat grew tight, ears pricking with tears threatening to spill as she reached out for his shoulders, pulling him ever so slightly closer. "I've had dreams of these lives with you, Roman...I don't remember them, but I've seen glimpses over the years."
As soon as she took a step inside the apartment, she took in a deep breath. There was so much history around them, it was practically oozing out of the walls. "A Grim-wha?"
