     “Never turned down a free drink in my life, don’t see a reason to start now,” Takeshi returned, a last drag taken from the cigarette pinched between his lips before he pulled it free, letting it drop to the ground and crushing it out beneath the heel of his shoe.    “Though I’d be more interested in a quid pro quo,” he admitted, through the light haze of smoke that clouded the space between them, but even still he studied her, taking in the little movements, the shift of weight, the crinkle of muscles in her features, the places her gaze wandered as she spoke.  “Starting with the how and when you knew the … asshole … that had this sleeve before me, sweetheart.”

single muse blogs !

his arm drapes across the back of her chair, fingertips brushing against her shoulder to catch her attention. they’re spending the evening with a mix of old friends.  believe it or not,  siobhan actually had a collection of friends in  high school.  not that she was great at keeping in touch with them,  but they somehow reconnected and decided to have dinner,  asking to take along her siblings, too.   however,  demetrius grows bored with the conversation,  with the atmosphere in the room— siobhan warned him that one of them mentioned hoping he’d still be single. 

leaning back to whisper in elinor’s ear, he murmurs;  “let’s go home.” taking her hand, they rise from the table, mentioning he has to be up early tomorrow and he still needs to walk el home.  shrugging off the disappointment aimed towards his departure, he kisses both his sisters on the forehead and gives everyone else a  wave. once outside, he pulls el towards him, lips on hers and his hand at the small of her back.   

“ in case others didn’t get the point. ”

she perks up immediately at the mention of a potential gift, tugging her own multi-patterned scarf around her neck, tying the belt of her coat around her waist.   suddenly, it becomes hard to choose what her favourite colour is ! all the possibilities,  all the colours becoming equally as beautiful in her imaginations. verona makes a quick mental scan of all the colours of scarves she already has and settles on---- 

“ orange !   or,  maybe lavender ?  or turquoise !  it’s hard to choose. you should know,  i’ll be grateful for whatever you bring back to me. ”  

“ pumpkin pie sounds divine. considering the ones i do have are already carved into--- ”  although the more childish antics of the hadlocks’ halloween tradition have long been abandoned,  save for the very  special tradition of scaring the shit out of verona,  going all out with the decor, which included jack o’ lanterns haven’t been left behind.   

“ let’s get ourselves a pumpkin.   and,  maybe brainstorm a couple’a  horror flicks to watch tonight ? ”

he’s insufferable---- he knows.  yet,  he’s been gifted with a silver tongue and charming looks that  he’ll say  “  attracts the masses  ” rather than repulses them.   it’s only till they see the snake behind the mask that they feel themselves recoiling,   wishing they’d  never met   demetrius.   what can he say ?   mother has taught him well.   

“  you’re just in time for dessert.   ----what great sin have you been committing yourself to tonight ?     or,  should i ask,   what sin haven’t  you yet committed yourself to ?  ”

   “I’d describe it more as making a bang than a splash,” Poe conceded, a smile worming its way across his features despite his half best efforts to prevent it.  It was ever so difficult not to allow her chipper attitude to become infectious, especially when she was especially animated.   His fingers smoothed the edges of his waistcoat and tie, his gaze warming easily as he watched her flit and flicker around the room.  “I suppose one could call him .. ruggedly handsome, if they were feeling generous,” he admitted, the faintest crinkle of his nose at the admission.  “Formidable, perhaps, as well – an efficient fighter, if mayhap bordering on coarse in tongue and uncouth, in mannerisms; I have hope that his rough edges may soften once he has had sufficient time to adjust to this new era and to his surroundings.  He does, at least, come well funded and – he does have a certain … rogueish charm and does seem to be equipped with an above average intellect.  I believe you would find him quite endearing, in point of fact.”

peach lips split into an even wider grin, melodic laughter filling up the space between them.  “  oh, you do know how i love an adventurous and--- daresay, dangerous human ! they’re much more fun, you know.  they have far better stories to tell ! ”  she hops up and lifts herself onto the counter, long limbs dangling  with black and white saddleshoes on each foot.  she chose to model herself after alice today;  an adorable sky blue dress with a checkered skirt, puffy sleeves, and a big white ribbon tied around her middle, petticoat beneath adding volumes to the dress.  depending on her mood, she shifted her style to whichever wonderlandian character struck her fancy for the day. she often teased poe into adding a dash of colour to his own uniform attire, even a blood red pocketsquare would enhance the entire look, yet keeping his favoured macabre theme intact.
