Zoinks I’m actually posting here?
If I’m being completely honest, I never thought I would genuinely share any of my oc’s, fanfictions, or headcanon’s, on Tumblr of all things, but here we are! I would like to thank @lousiecom11 and @theheaddaphnestan for inspiring me and giving me enough courage to man up and finally post something.
I love both of ya’ll’s (is that grammatically correct?) fanfics so much and I look forward every time to reading them!
So without further ado, please welcome to the family of Shadowsan’s girlfriends, Lian!
Now before you begin reading, just know that the lore is quite long, and this first part is just Lian’s backstory before even meeting Team Red. Also more than half of this was made on the notes app at like 3am 😭.
Strap in motherfuckers because i have a whole lot of lore and not a lot of patience so either lock in or get left behind
Lian: 58 years old (yes i freaking calculated ts roll with me here)
Chinese-from a very politically powerful family in Beijing
You’ve heard of abusive fathers, get ready for emotionally manipulative, narcissistic, and physically abusive mother!
Her father is a coward who barely knew how to speak up for let alone himself, but sometimes he was able to man up and defend his children.
Lian has A LOT of siblings.
An older brother and sister (Chao and Jingyi)and a younger pair of twins (girl and boy) - Chenxi and Lin
Her older brother, Chao, was able to escape from the family, along with her younger sister, Chenxi, but her older sister and younger brother stayed (bc they were manipulated :3)
Bc this is Carmen Sandiego, Lian’s husband used to be an operative for VILE and in the Yakuza (double trouble ah).
Her husband’s name is Kuro (meaning darkness - ha see what i did there guys) and his mission was to kill her older sister since she was supposed to inherit all of the power of the family.
Unfortunately, he was a freaking dumbass and went in the wrong window (everyone say boo Kuro). That’s where he met Lian, who was holding up a gun and speaking to him in fluent Japanese like the girlboss she is (the only reason she knew Japanese is bc her mother forced her to study it due to her paranoia that Japan would attack China and try to take over for whatever reason 💔😭). She said something along the lines of “If you dare to kill my sister, I will kill you”
Yeah so, long story short, Kuro’s eyes basically turned into hearts and he stuttered so hard in his terrible Mandarin that even Lian thought it was cute in a funny pathetic way.
Essentially, Kuro basically asked her out and for some fuckass reason Lian was like “yeah sure why not, my family and ancestors already hate my ass”
Keep in mind, Lian was like 16 when this happened and Kuro was like… idk like just turned 18? (LIKE JUST TURNED 18 GUYS ITS ONLY A TWO YEAR AGE GAP PLEASE BELIEVE ME)
After this, Kuro basically gave a big middle finger to VILE and somehow managed to disappear off of the grid (listen I said he was stupid not incapable). He did this so that he was able to send letters to Lian to get her out of China and into Japan (if you couldn’t tell from the context clues, yes Kuro is Japanese)
At around 17, Lian finally saved up enough money and memorized her escape plan to make her getaway (this inspired her siblings to follow in her footsteps to escape as well).
At around 19, Lian has her eldest daughter, Aika, who we’ll learn more about later.
After the birth of their daughter, Lian becomes very angry at the fact that Kuro is still in the Yakuza. Because of this, she has on multiple occasions, waltzed in to the Yakuza and dragged Kuro by the ear out.
How did she achieve this without getting jumped? Gun. She owns gun. Japan is scared of gun. Lian asserts dominance.
At around 20, Lian had twin boys, however one died prematurely. The other one thankfully survived and was named Haruto (Fly or Soar) in honor of his fallen twin.
Now, Lian and Kuro along with their children lived a very happy life, until Kuro finally decided to try and leave the Yakuza, which in turn alerted VILE of his whereabouts.
It’s good to mention that Lian joined the Japanese Navy around her 30’s and served for about 20 years.
Anywho. Haruto had two children (who are actually really important to the story) Jiang and Meimei-very Chinese names, I know, Haruto received his dumbass genes from his father.
When Meimei was just born, VILE showed up and decided “huh, what a nice family, would sure be a shame if someone dies.” And proceeded to kill both Kuro and Haruto.
Lian would have been able to save them, but it was Lady Dokuso, and she placed sleeping pills into her drink, causing her to not be able to save them (survivors guilt :3)
Aika was currently in Ireland for her transfer year of college where she met her husband, Declan, and has her first son, Finn.
After the death of both her husband and son, Lian became Meimei’s and Jiang’s sole guardian.
Their first two years were probably the toughest. Lian moved in with Haruto’s wife’s family, only to discover that she (Manami - “love of the sea”) had killed herself after discovering her husband died.
Lian didn’t have the heart to tell two already grieving children that their mother died too, but she knew that it would hurt them more to not tell them the truth.
It took a very long time for both Meimei and Jiang to start speaking again, but thanks to the help of Manami’s family and Lian’s efforts, Jiang finally began to feel comfortable enough to speak with them.
Even though Lian received a monthly pension, she took online classes for marine biology where she met her now adopted daughter, Kaiko.
For those who have elite ball knowledge, you know that Kaiko is from the canceled Netflix series The Deep which is now on YouTube (I 10000% recommend watching it, even if the animation is kind of questionable). Essentially, anything canon in that universe is also canon in the Carmen Sandiego universe (because why the hell not).
Moving on, Kaiko and Lian bonded over their love for the ocean, and Lian became a mentor to Kaiko (and later her adoptive mother-when she learned that Kaiko’s own parents disowned her-my headcanon).
Lian also found a job by the Osaka bay (Manami’s family lives in Akashi) where she worked as a ship mechanic.
I’ll go more into detail about Meimei and Jiang in a later post but let me just say this: Meimei looks much more Chinese and Jiang looks much more Japanese. Jiang never really got bullied but Meimei did and still gets bullied for looking Chinese (kids called/still call her bakemono which means monster). She got used to it after a while though and started becoming much more confident when she learned how to fight and ignore them.
Since this is a Carmen Sandiego AU, of course Lian despises Lady Dokuso and VILE with her whole living being and soul. If she could, Lian would 1000% just go out of her way to find Dokuso to torture her.
But yeah, that’s all that I have so far for her backstory, I hoped ya’ll enjoyed!!!
